SHADE EP by Jook & Blumey Ft Logan
The Shade EP is the product of restless creativity throughout lockdown, creating a transcendent embodiment of moody basses and grime set vocal chops in its own unique way.
Heavyweights Jook & Blumey have teamed up with prolific wordsmith Logan for a world colliding ‘Shade EP’ as the first release on ESO Recordings. Jook (Sector 7 sounds, Twenty Twenty, White Peach), & Blumey (ec2a, Outhouse Sounds) explore expansive and haunting melodies, coupled with trancey chords —and it's beautiful and eerie.
‘Shade’ is the result of years of trial and error, creating a high-energy song influenced by 2-step garage like EL B, Benny Ill and early ‘00 dubstep tracks. Jook & Blumey wanted to “create something that you could listen to at home, on the go & at the club and not get bored of”, and Shade is just that.
Moving effortlessly to the next song, ‘She’ is nothing short of beautiful, like a deep underwater exploration of shapeshifting drum patterns and brilliantly designed walls of crystalline synth melodies. ‘She’ is rich with emotion and full of energy, like a twinkling invitation to dance in smoky rooms under flashing lights.
Shade’s instrumental counterpart (Track 3) is not there as an afterthought on the EP, but rather an ode to the syrupy grime vocals from Logan, closing off the EP with an evocatively danceable 5 minute track.
In the beginning, both songs were made with the goal to take the listener on their respective journeys, and not much thought went into making the two songs coherent, but in the end they worked together naturally. The Shade EP sets the benchmark for high calibre electronic music with its unpredictable twists and turns in production perfectly suited to Logan’s smooth patois tinged lyrics.
