the a-side, brooklyn-based zebra katzs sex sellz, is the first vinyl release by the blog-hyped rapper, equipped with a label head teeths 150bpm remix. the aa-side is a 120-bpm electro-influenced dubby techno song by paris french fries. a quirky 12 inch, with a avantgarde rap song, a banger remix and a solid dancefloor track, quirky but working.

after the release of their acclaimed 1st anniversary compilation, clekclekboom recordings already have another ep ready to go, coming in the shape of a vinyl-only white label from ccbs co-founder and figurehead french fries.

off the back of his second club-shaking ep for cvss dirtybird imprint, paris ghetto mastermind producer is back for his 3rd outing on his own label clekclekboom. after dropping their inaugural release, the stellar *champagne / hugz (ft. bambounou)*, at the end of 2011 it seems fitting that french fries return to kick-off 2013 with the labels 9th release. the use of bold, futuristic effects and percussive subtleties combined with an astute aptitude for clarity and fullness of sound makes for yet another destructive french fries and clekclekboom ep. this shrewd blend of experimentalism and dancefloor bass-weight means ccb009 is likely to turn up in a wide range of record bags.

french fries delivers two originals on the cutting edge of modern bass. “space alarm” is right up in your face but artfully holds back right when you think it will go over the top. the inside “smoke wine” is more in the vein of last years smash “yo vogue,” yet more understated and deep which is rare for the genre. when i play these at the right time they always solicit an audible “ooooh” from the crowd at thedrops. remix #1 is by justin martin who really blows it up dirtybird style with almost a breakbeat old school electro beat. remix #2 is by dirtybird newcomers goldffinch via belgium who also deliver a really funk laden club version. both remixes are ace and the full release brings a very fresh sound to the label.

i was finishing up a long extended set in paris when the cleckcleckboom crew practically ran into the club to get on the decks. i had hung out with them before but tonight they had all new tracks and an incredible energy. so i stayed past the last ravers just to hear what they would play and that was when i heard “hugz” by french fries and bamabounou. this was a new sound, some nasty nasty shit sitting somewhere between juke and bass music and and i knew we had to get this sound on dirtybird no matter what. needles to say “yo vogue” is hot property and i’m really excited to release it on dirtybird. the half time drop, the chopped and screwed vocal, the stuttering bass kicks, the creepy moog on top - it’s simple and complex at the same time and it wrecks shop whenever it gets played. i did a remix on the b side giving it some db flavor and dirtybird newcomer leroy peppers lays out his own bay area skeeze with hot sauce on top. watch yer bass bins! best, vonstroke.
