having established itself with innovative releases from the likes of lucy, blawan and roots in heaven, the experimental zehnin label now looks to paleman for four more fierce tracks. now often releasing on his own plmn label, this classically and jazz trained artist has previously won plenty of fans and plaudits for heavyweight rollers on labels like swamp 81, 81 and school records. emerging from the ashes of dubstep to come up with his own deep techno sound, he is a rinse fm regular with his experimental show ‘trenches and mirrors this exploration with tracks full of texture, modular synthesis and visceral percussion. opener ‘2068 is a dark and foreboding bit of economical techno. monolithic kicks set a forceful groove below as they rock back and forth, and factory floor sounds, scurrying little sonic details and rattling hits all peel off the groove as it powers on

following on from the well-received first ep from dusky, school records return with their second release, this time from paleman. at just 19. manchesters paleman is a fast rising talent with support from the likes of loefah and mary ann hobbs already in the bag, on top of many plays on radio 1, rinse and xfm. the world has been waiting for a paleman release for a while now, and on this evidence it is unlikely to be disappointed.

as an increasing number of the british producers turn to techno as a source of inspiration, the gritty sound of the uk underground is easily obscured by the polished veneer of continental 4/4 music.
having taken his time to emerge from the shadows, paleman has constructed a musical voice for himself which turns this conundrum on its head by reimagining the skeletal drums and gutteral growls of early dubstep and speed garage as a style of uk techno all of his own. for this youngster, berlin is more of a startpoint than a destination. at only 19, he joins the ever growing base of manchester-based techno producers as the first signing to fulcrum records, a new label started in south manchester by friends sam schorb (aka damu) and adam rogerson.
