techno, midwest trap, grime and breaks synthesised? this may sound like a rather experimental combination. nevertheless the outcome of leibniz latest innovation is a very dj friendly 4-tracker called quake. the artist is co-founder of the hundert label, half of the projects dj ok and dj bwin and responsible for releases on shtum, ratlife, ortloff and fourth wave. orbb almost dodged jays rocket. mastered by beni brachtel aka bartellow. artwork by paul bernhard and arthur poitevin.

after leibniz focused on distorted grime and jungle influenced techno on his last records, he is now diving into deeper fields with his first ep for hundert. over the time leibniz has obsessively collected youtube videos that serve him as an audio sample library. be it a review of a lawnmower or people singing to their pets, every track features bits and pieces of sound taken from these videos. by editing and cutting the original material the sounds get implemented into a new musical context.pushing digital algorithms of music software to its limits and over the edge.house and references to contemporary hip hop beats form the skeleton for four hazy out-of-the-ordinary cuts.

this guy leibniz is back on rat life records. you might remember him from the collaboration with credit 00 on basement toolz volume ii. this time he goes for a full solo ep. the three course menu consists of a grimy appetiser called -bat-, if your stomach can handle this, we serve -uzi- as a main course, a whole round of bullets, very hard to digest. -2 simple- is for dessert, again quite heavy, full of fat and definitely not gluten-free.

leibniz takes no prisoners for his return to shtum. his new ep sees the leipziger by choice in best form. harsh but fair. -grind- is a masterpiece in the matter of building up tension with only few but proper elements. amen to that drumming and when the strings come in the dance floor is probably already burning. -foolish- is no less effective with its ultimate kick drum action and the way the pads are manipulated. romantic leibniz. on the flipside you get the vibrant -this is- in two versions. the -brecht mix- screams rave in capital letters with the bleepy synths and hard snare drum while the -scuff mix- trawls through dark and unearthy techno territories. no-nonsense music.

shtum strikes back with another fresh talent straight from leipzigs basements. with only two releases so far, leibniz sound is already pretty...

the first release on leipzig s ph17 is a compilation of pieces by companioned artists and promising talents which try to pass the limits of regular club music by combining its roots with experimental and weird structures. leibniz sampled his playstation sounds, ariadne created a symbiosis between opera singing and heavy electro acoustics, hobor, who is usually non-conform in his productions, experiments with loopy techno sounds which are creating their own dynamics in-between. annanan and stanley deliver breaks, lo-fi electro and wicked melodies.

leipzig’s r.a.n.d. muzik are perhaps better known for pressing records than releasing them, but to demonstrate their new picture disc press they ve curated a limited edition compilation lp for reflective home listening (and viewing). featuring lowtec, consulate and leipzig locals panthera krause and leibniz to name just a few, over its 8 tracks the collection moves from melody-driven idm to dark, atmospheric ambience, through to reflective electronica. skilfully pressed on two sides of 12” plastic with artwork by marijn degenaar this is surely a must-have for every sensible record collector.

the first compilation on the dresden based label shtum unites three label regulars and one newbie with four tracks suitable for rampant basements. -motorcity racers- has been on rotation for quite some time amongst the label heads and is the first sign from poland s chino on shtum. it floats somewhere between dirty detroit and the rough corners of the netherlands. leibniz delivers the -real life-, a relatively straight follow-up to his latest ep, while jaures hit their drum machines like there is no tomorrow. perm s cut is all loopy and succeeds in creating an irresistible atmosphere with just a few elements. the artwork comes courtesy of carl-johannes schulze.
