on this split ep, two-heads project minimum syndicat is back again with its own special brand of hard acid music, mixing authentic rave influences and modern industrialish techno to reach this state of dark euphoria who became its trademark. this time, their guest is the famous irish producer sunil sharpe, another figure not known to make any compromise... he delivers two severe cuts of techno and electro full of raw energy, with a sinister vibe reflecting the dirty clubs and warehouses where this music is supposed to be played.

the debut dub syndicate set from 1982, pre-dating the involvement of mainstay style scott. this features various members of creation rebel and african head charge turning out a wild dub set, with hard-hitting rhythms and fx-mutated melodies phasing in and out of the mix . recorded quickly with track titles cheekily poking fun at the contemporary series by the scientist which pitted him against various b-movie foes. the tunes themselves however are deadly serious, with version excursions on some classic on-u vocal cuts such as “bedward the flying preacher” and “across the red sea”, and a continuing commitment by producer adrian sherwood to take his love of reggae and filter it through his exploratory and uniquely english approach. re-cut at dubplates & mastering in berlin. includes download card with bonus track and sleevenotes by steve barker (on the wire)

unreleased archival tracks from the on-u vaults! serving the same purpose as the recent return of the crocodile set did for african head charge, this lp illuminates the early development of one of the flagship acts on the label, allowing some truly magnificent versions to be heard for the first time. mostly stripped-back raw takes, they highlight the rock solid rhythm foundation laid down by such incredible players as style scott and charlie eskimo fox, as well as three vital soul-in-the-echo-chamber interjections from the late, great bim sherman. essential early-80s dub damage.

hauntological dub taking the mystical eastern melodica scales pioneered by augustus pablo and applying them to a unique mix of reversioned cult themes and roots rockers. doctor pablo was a key member of creation rebel as well as contributing to such canonical albums as cry tuff dub encounter volume 1 and some of the early hitrun records sides, a pre-cursor to on-u sound. it is also the third album appearance by the dub syndicate. features the much-loved dub re-rub of the theme tune to classic british science fiction show doctor who.

increasing access to new studio technology resulted in this splicing of dub reggae dna with cut-and-paste sampledelia. anticipating the later work of labels such as def jux, wordsound and anticon, this 1985 album paired crack jamaican session musicians such as the roots radics’ drummer style scott (by this point the instrumental leader of dub syndicate) and the congos’ ashanti roy with public image limited’s jah wobble and keith levene, not to mention the restless mixing desk boundary-pushing of producer and de facto member adrian sherwood. a more reggaefied take on the industrial funk sherwood was making with tackhead during the same period, lovers of digidub, outernational sounds and even the wilder reaches of 80s hip-hop will find much to get lost in here

continuing their uncompromising fusions of artists new and old, contort yourself return with a punishing array of industrial thuggery from hardware manipulators you wouldn t take home to your mother. novacom were last seen on slumdiscs back in 2014 and here bring a fast and gnarly rhythmic tryst to bear before jk flesh do their own snagging dance with oppressive synths and drums twirling into a heavyweight whole. french brutalists le syndicat then dominate the b-side with their confrontational bastardisation of techno and industrial, making the perfect source material for ekman to get nasty with on his remix of -maximalist-.

you knew this would happen! as purveyors of early rave sounds with a serious dose of talent and nostalgia, minimum syndicat would logically team up with head honcho um-welt to deliver an outstanding split ep that will go down in rod history!
on a side, paris based combo drops an authentic anthem of their trademark: *antiworlds* mixes a fat compressed techno kick to ravey strings while a sample taken from mobys classic *thousand* cut will lead you to ecstasy. beastly!
on the flipside, umwelt strikes back with a monster of a track. brainwashing *otsha4trcs2xox* brings some old school rave vibes over a powerful, rolling and infectious rhythm a la plastikman. tune!
