earthboogie’s debut album, human call, rightly earned praise on its release earlier in the year, with listeners responding positively to its sticky and humid dancefloor fusions of african and south american rhythms, chunky dub disco, retro-futurist house, spacey analogue electronics and sun-kissed balearica. hot on the heels of that release, leng records has sourced new remixes of two album highlights – “high minded man” and “silken moon” – from running back label boss gerd janson and synthesizer-wielding balearic boogie stalwart pete herbert.

the mushrooms project are well known for their sleazy mid-tempo laid-back percussive style, a sound that immediately resonated with rising stars and newly signed label mates earthboogie. specifically it was ‘dubby bolas’ from the italian duo’s 2016 album ‘rivea corymbosa’ album that really excited earthboogie and equally, the mushrooms were fans of the afro disco sound the londoners displayed on their debut track ‘route ten to interzone’. the mutual appreciation led to this remix project and now, released exclusively for record store day 2018, their complementary productions styles collide with great effect.

it was may 2017 when earthboogie’s debut release dropped on leng. the soundsystem-loving east london duo rightly won praise for a fine ep that brilliantly joined the dots between all things intergalactic, terrestrial and tribal. having spent the last ten months recording their adventures, izaak gray and nicola robinson return with “silken moon”, the first single from their forthcoming debut album, human call.

while they’ve been djing around london and beyond with their custom built quod sound system for some time, the mr mystery ep marks their debut appearance on leng records. it’s the first time the fruits of their studio labours, recorded in the space they call the control room, have made it onto vinyl.

vinyl-wiederveröffentlichung des manfred mann’s earthband-klassikers von 1983 als 180g-vinyl-edition. mit chris thompson und trevor rabin sind beliebte manfred mann’s earthband-mitglieder an diesen album beteiligt, mit sting (“demolition man”) und bob marley (“redemption song”) covert man nicht weniger populäre künstler. kernstück ist die fast 10-minütige “africa suite”, in der manfred mann die eigenkompositionen “brothers and sisters of africa”, “to bantustan?”, “koze kobenini?” und “brothers and sisters of azania” zu einer großen rock-komposition zusammenführt.

wiederveröffentlichung des manfred mann’s earthband albums von 1973 als 180g schwere vinyl-edition. “messin’” wurde mit dem gitarristen mick rodgers eingespielt. zwei coverversionen sind teil des konzeptes: “get your rocks off” von bob dylan und “mardi gras day” von dr. john. das album - zwischen den werken “glorified magnified- und “solar fire” angesiedelt - fällt in die hoch-kreative prog-rock-phase der manfred mann’s earthband und gilt als klassiker des genres.

welcome to the first love sick recordings release brought to you by the likes of riskotheque, marchmellow and screen age & mudie (aka southbound hangers). a side >all alone< provides an exhilarating journey through heartbreak, loss and isolation. in the intro, delayed piano chords hint at distant happy memories but soon make way for stark 808s and womb-like sub frequencies that bring the listener back to bitter reality. insistent vocal snippets serve only to galvanize the tracks emotional content. truly a song to cry to as much as dance. in contrast to this is aa >you dont understand<. positivity and hope pervade this little beauty, its glistening synth hooks and intricate drum programming conjuring thoughts of joy and new found affection. perhaps the perfect sound-track to a summer romance.
