This latest Wagon Repair offering bears the fruits of a mountainous collaboration between Italian and Swiss friends of the label. Brought together by their common affiliation with excellent Swiss label Mental Groove, after-hours veteran Donato Dozzy and Rome native Giorgio Gigli team up to showdown with Crowdpleaser and Oliver Mental Groove in two titanic takes on the same track. A: The Italian job is deep and direct, plunging with bass pulse, cyclic melodic tone and hollow chamber reverb. Cavernous and slightly eerie, intermittent percussive stabs whistle deep in the mix as tectonic pads rumble and steadily approach from distance. B: Slowly developing with hypnotic delayed melodies, the Swiss interpretation peaks with shuffled snare and bass kick, cascading with a warm synth shower. Equally deep as the Italian effort, there is a blissful dynamism to the mix in contrast to the Italian’s pummeling production.
