Clouded Vision, the UK-based production duo comprised of Bugged Out! resident Matt Walsh and studio maestro Steve Cook, grace Throne Of Blood with two new cuts of narcotic house magic sure to win over discerning dancefloors during the coming summer months. A-side "City Thunder," featuring vocals by Emilie Albisser of Passarella Death Squad, is six-and-a-half minutes of slo-mo house that churns along at a leisurely 108 BPM.Ê A storming kick and chunky analog bassline provide just enough weight to keep the stratospheric pads, delicate vocal wisps and emotive guitar work from steering this track skywards. ÊOn the flip, "Alien Race" dabbles in a similar sound palette but to decidedly different ends, leaving the Balearics behind for interplanetary booty-thumping mayhem. Pitched-down vocal samples and minor-key digitalia instill a sense of menace that is only deepened by the stomping drum work and a devastatingly simple bassline. Remixing "City Thunder" is Nottingham stalwart Chamboché, who ticks the tempo dial up a notch with a stuttering, garage-inflected drum machine workout. Melodic elements from the original slowly emerge in the mix, accompanied by an infectious front-and-center piano house line. The stripped-back arrangement and careful mixing leave this track plenty of space to breathe. Meanwhile, Turbo Recordings techno dons Gingy & Bordello lend a skeletal rework of "Alien Race" that considerably ups the stomp quotient of the original in an homage to classic techno a la DBX's "Losing Control." Ominous synth washes set the stage for canyon-deep bass with a resonant-filter squelch that veers into perilous sonic territories. Snappy snares and dubbed-out stabs fill matters out to make for a ruthlessly efficient floor-filler
