Centre Source Records deliver their fifth slice of wax and a debut EP from Hank Youngman, who unleashes his Wabi Sabi 12”. Taking a side-step from his shared WARREN RAWW project, Adelaide’s Markos Milios further explores the outer-edges of house through this new project.
The EP’s title track cements first-impressions of Japanese influence, with lush koto-style strings ringing around organic drum arrangement. Well-sampled Gil Scott-Heron prose sprinkled through the track makes for a real wistful trip. A2’s Shinkansen is made of bright chords and sneaks in a mid-point acid attack, upping the ante. The B-side expands on emotion and is, overall, reminiscent of true, Neo-Detroit deep house of the mid/late 90’s – think Headspace Recordings. Mister Bongo is a hand drum dream, and Meguro closes out proceedings with beautiful pad-work.
