The 1976 album from Luiz Melodia back on 180 gram vinyl.
One of our favorite albums ever from Luiz Melodia – a set that has a warmly jazzy vibe in the instrumentation, which seems to even further open up the soulful vocals of the singer! The set's got a nice balance between tightness in the instrumentation and looseness in the presentation – a bit like the territory the hippest Brazilian fusion was hitting in the 70s, but with some of the soulful currents that were coming into American jazz funk too – at a level that the singer sound completely wonderful, and at a level of the biggest giants of MPB at the time. The musicians are top-shelf throughout – professional, but also very personal, and never just falling into the role of slick studio players. Titles include "Maravilhas Contemporaneas", "Juventude Transvida", "Paquistao", "Baby Rose", "Quando O Carnaval Chegou", "Mary", and "Congenito".
