Great Selection !!
This Is DJs Choice Vol. 4 presents a great selection of funk, soul, Latin and hip hop. At album length, there's a complete club night here, put together by Gu, a longtime friend and DJ partner of Unique founder Henry Storch. All the songs are original 7" singles, and they not only have musical significance, but also their own personal stories.
Gu and Henry met at a joint event in 2002. They started DJing together more and more often, supporting each other with releases, parties and concerts.
Gu has been friends with The Sweet Vandals, for example, since he organized a concert in Bremen in 2006 at Henry's request, only to be thwarted by a crucial UEFA Cup match at SV Werder. Gu presented the Brazilian cover version of "Sunny" by Eli Goulart E Banda Do Mato to a surprised Bobby Hebb (the original artist) and was able to explain the riddle of the Portuguese lyrics to him. "Drumma Man" by Daddy-O was first released exclusively as a 7" on Gu's ORIGU label and was the beginning of an ongoing collaboration that led to the legendary hip hop band Stetsasonic releasing their first single since 1991 on a small label from Germany.
"Forty First Street Breakdowne" by Naomi Davis & The Knights Of Forty First Street is a record that Gu played over and over again with DJ icon Keb Darge at the legendary Madame JoJo's in London at "Keb Darge's Legendary Deep Funk". Jazzman Gerald, who released "Fakin' It" by Sharon Jackson & The Soul Destroyers, spontaneously helped out as a stock boy when buying records. Diesler and Gu spent almost an entire club night in Cologne in 2009 philosophizing about music and new musical plans are currently being forged with J. Rawls from Jay Are.
This Is DJs Choice Vol. 4 is the soundtrack to all these and more stories and experiences.
And it is a tribute to Henry Storch.[info sheet from distr.]
