During his lifetime Oscar Peterson received many awards. These included the Praemium Imperiale (the Arts equivalent of the Nobel Prize, presented by the Japan Art Association), the UNESCO International Music Prize, eight Grammy Awards including one for Lifetime Achievement and the 1993 Glenn Gould Prize. He was the third recipient of the latter, the first chosen by unanimous decision and the first ever non-classical musician. Listeners believe that Peterson enjoyed his finest hours between 1950 and 1965.
