A neat bit of Wackie's history resurfaces here with 'African Woman', which pairs Wayne Jarrett's aching vocal with the heavyweight presence of Bullwackie's All Stars. The 45 mix is soporific and soulful with aching vocals and the most gentle of rhythms. The LP version leans into a deeper, somehow even more meditative sway and instrumentals like 'African Version' and 'Black Heart Dub' strip things back to their skeletal essence and, as with any classic dub, let bass and echo do the talking. Elsewhere, Baba Leslie adds brass-laced flair on 'Black Horns' for a brighter sound. A tasteful 12" is rounded out with a rare dubplate mix from 1975.
