after last years album *love & devotion* the husband and wife duo of mike paradinas and lara rix-martin follow up with *weird drift*. the album shows just how much their ability to write confident and thoughtful pop songs has developed, while still being able to retain the sleepy cushion of steamy synth pop that made the first record so rewarding to listen to. this time album features the vocals of a vezelay, a.k.a. french singer and producer matthieu le berre, who brings a gentle poised falsetto to the duos productions along with a delicate but hopeful angst. the vinyl lp comes with download code for the full album.

in february various release the first offering from new signing hardware, already getting airplay from rob da bank (radio 1), marry anne hobbs (radio 6) and john kennedy (xfm). this 12 inch will definitely start of a busy year to a great start.

misty conditions is a project that started off when henry collins and richard wilson met up in henrys studio a couple of years ago and jammed for a few days non-stop, enjoying the process thoroughly. the connection became so good in this period that the duo developed a fluent understanding of how each other worked, ending up as a project made across the internet, while henry was living in france and richard in la. they cross pollinated by developing what each did best, henry making and creating banks of samples and richard creating software and effects to cut up and re-sample, passing the tracks back and forth, essentially until they felt finished.

morgan zarates second release for hyperdub is a bold and unexpected move for him. he has been known in the past as the producer for leftfield soul group spacek and also currently as one half of the shining, signed to xl records, but with >broken heart collector< he has made some highly contagious dubstep pop, featuring rising singer / songwriter / producer stevie neale on vocals. stevie warns of a guy who is the titular >broken heart collector<. her rnb vocals contrast with a fierce storm of drums and vertiginous synths that attack like waves against rocks. it is a brilliant pop song, with a chorus earworm you might find hard to resist. there is also an instrumental included as well. the third track is >crey bey<, an energetic, grimy 8 bar instrumental. it shifts between dive-bombing synths and a spooked, nervous melody over a rich organ track, with martial kicks and snares guaranteed to get you bouncing.

seit 2006 sind devin booze und sarah reynolds als ear pwr unterwegs. ein projekt, das von boozes instrumentierung, reynolds lyrik und dem kreativen zusammenspiel der beiden lebt. boozes ausbildung an dem von bob moog gegründeten music technology program an der universität von nordkarolina liefert das klangfundament, auf dem ear pwr errichtet wurde. mittels einiger alter synthesizer und reichlich perkussion schaffen die zwei dicht gewobene klangstrukturen. das bescherte der band nicht nur eine einladung zu dem von animal collective kuratierten atp festival in england im mai 2011, sondern auch eine us- und europatour mit ihren labelmates toro y moi. ear pwr , das zweite album des duos, wickelt die soundgespinste des 2009er-debüts weiter und offenbart dabei ein reichhaltiges set von klangkonturen. entstanden im heimischen nordkarolina ist ear pwr so freudvoll wie beruhigend, so sentimental wie neugierig.
