up next on arcing seas is magna pia with his second ep after his 2016 debut incantations on coun-terchange. behind the alias is hüseyin evirgen, one half of cassegrain. arcs-05 has a clear focus of providing combative dance floor trips, unorthodox sonic moods with subtle 90s techno references. the eps track titles artemisia, semiramis and akasha pay tribute to three mighty ancient heroines of very different origins. consequently, magna pia continues his in-terest in combining techno tracks with archaic symbolism.

no-no 5 starts off with a deep clanking off-stepper pending from sub heavy bass rolling to spaceously round acid. b1 & b2 remixes by norways techno old-schoolers subtil: an ambient take first, then a tunneling & whirling techno remix. 4 track signature ep with versatile but very typical club no-no sound!

madame e. is a musical setting of georges bataille’s “madame edwarda”, a short novel that interlaces themes of eroticism, religiosity and death, and was written under the pseudonym pierre angelique in 1941, during the occupation of paris. composer mirco magnani wrote eleven electronic pieces and presented them to actor/singer ernesto tomasini. they turned them into songs by adding vocal melodies and together they produced a libretto based on bataille’s french text. the result of their dynamic interpretation is a hypnotically spellbinding performance where the audience is transported through worlds – ancient and new – and where tomasini’s haunting falsetto conveys the tormented emotions in bataille’s work and becomes the instrument that articulates the writer’s famously obscure themes.

incantations is the debut ep from magna pia - the new solo project by cassegrain member hüseyin evirgen. hüseyin is one half of the cassegrain duo alongside long-time colleague alex tsiridis. renowned as a driving force within the world of leftfield club techno and contemporary sound design, cassegrain are known for their work on labels like prologue, and on killekill and infrastructure new york alongside tin man.
