savas pascalidis releases heavy new ep brain waves on atrophic society savas pascalidis is an artist who needs little in the way of introduction. having a career that spans the last 25 years, and releases on a staggering number of great labels (gigolo records, kurbel, non series, mote evolver, stockholm ltd, children of tommorow, skudge, figure and many more), were proud to welcome savas to the atrophic society family. brain waves sees further exploration of the techno that defines savas’ sound. savage, grooving and dripping in nuance, all four cuts on this ep will set the night on fire. distant dreams is a tunnelling beast that twists and turns over itself with insistent percussive slaps and grooving bass, underpinning a driving synth line that stacks up to create a furious ep opener. there were no parts to work from to make a remix with, so in a total class move echologist drops a cover mix of the b1 track resonate, though it could be said that it’s inspired by all the original tracks on the ep. he strips it back to the bare necessities and propels it forward in true echologist style. the original of resonate is noisey and blustery as the title would suggest, hissing and bleeping over a mid range bassline that tastefully peaks and troughs for the length of the journey. finally, rounding out the ep in total class, subminimal crescendo’s with layers of noise and delay over a funk-fuelled rhythm. all four tracks on this forward thinking ep for atrophic society are essential machine-made music and an outstanding addition to savas body of work.

release & versand am 29.08.2016 atrophic society regulars echologist and vohkinne are joined by new friends dj spider and material object for the label s first various artists release. kicking things off with his regular sleek touch, echologist delivers our favourite track of his to date in the aptly titled splatter ballistics cop, with trademark large low end and analog squelches aplenty. dj spider follows with a clanking, reverberating behemoth full of dark drones and unsettling background noise entitled necro nebula. material object injects his track wipe out with supercharged urgency, envoking the kind of late night, dark, floor burner we re particularly fond of. finally, vohkinne wraps the ep up with null, heavy and hammering in all the right ways.

echologist and vohkinne go head to head in the latest release for atrophic society. utilising a library of field recordings the two captured in their respective back yards. they ve crafted a sonic pallet using only those sounds, which serves to give a tangible cohesion across the ep as well as provide something a little different from the norm. each track captures a unique set of machine sounds and turns them into brooding, heady, atmospheric techno. a thousand cuts and scythe serve as heavy hitters, whereas nature control and broad swathe to the far side bring a dark mood seething with anticipation.

label head vohkinne steps up to the plate again with the sweaty and headstrong 3 rd release from atrophic society, creole rhythm. its concrete rhythm, combined with an analogue lead riff stirs echoes of warehouses, insistently driving forward, mindful of where its been. tripeo remixes the title track with gusto and flair as weve come to expect, staying faithful to the riff whilst aggressively re-paving the rhythm, offering a slight twist on the original idea. rounding out the ep, be like the sun removes the rhythm to focus on tone, frequency, shades of sub bass and saturation

atrophic society welcomes brendon moeller for it s second release, delivering 2 deeply textured and emotive technoscapes. wielding a warbled bassline and synthetic bleeps with a masters touch, the title track meanders within a natural landscape, fuzzing and washing around descending chirps and following the call of a distant foghorn, leading us through the passage to obscurity.
