cosmic bridge continues its dedication to new talent with -the gift-, a four-track ep from oliver yorke. since his first release in 2012, yorke s output has been minimal but that hasn t stopped the music from catching the ears of label boss om unit. on the gift, yorke pulls from travels and visual experiences to deliver a strikingly detailed blend of classic drum & bass and autonomic vibes that deftly balances mood and energy.

cosmic bridge kicks off 2018 with an energetic four-track ep full of fresh ideas. proc fiskal is the alias of 21-year-old joe powers, an edinburgh native who fell in love with uk dance music and the various strains of the hardcore continuum thanks to youtube. he refined these inspirations at 160 bpm and began to receive airplay from the likes of grime veteran dj spooky. a debut ep for hyperdub followed in 2017, speeding grime to jungle tempos for fascinating results. these unique tracks caught the ears of om unit leading to the hello boss ep, on which proc fiskal further explores the sweet spot between dark garage, grime and ragga jungle.

since jim coles took on the mantle of om unit, the english producer has sought to challenge himself and his audience by going beyond the confines of genres and styles he has so far explored. in the process he has found success by striving for more feeling, for a more human and daring electronic music. this journey continues with ‘self’, coles’ third album as om unit and a true follow-up to his 2013 debut ‘threads’.
‘self’ captures coles in a period of growth, change, and experimentation. inspired by personal psychological and emotional healing work, and a vision of the self as an egg — which coles later on discovered is a jungian archetype — the album blends dubwise, bass-heavy music with the space of experimental ambient compositions and the daring imagination of a cold wave science fiction soundtrack.

cosmic bridge continues to move forward with a two-track release featuring the dynamic duo of munich s danny scrilla, an early member of the label s roster, and bristol s sam binga, a close friend and collaborator of the label s founder om unit. created during a weekend session at scrilla s home studio, the release sees this long overdue anglo-german meeting of the future minded go deep into unexpected sonic terrains and fully live up to its title of weird in munich. the trip begins on side a with frolic in brine , a brooding roller that sets up the mood: deep, hypnotic and sweaty. the track unfolds from pulsating synths with a percussive rhythm underpinning a gentle procession of elements including synth arpeggios, languid guitar licks, and echoing sound effects. ignoring dancefloor conventions, frolic in brine instead opts for a minimal approach that delivers a shot of pure body music.

cosmic bridge records blazes new pathways in its growing catalogue by welcoming margari’s kid to the family, the alias of josé maría moya sánchez — a spanish producer based in cadiz. inspired by british dance culture, sanchez first began writing his own tracks in 2012 and says he uses music primarily as therapy with a preference towards “broken rhythms, depth, and message.” the init 1 ep is a riveting slice of 170bpm seekers music, a developed and adult sound that brings to mind burial and kid drama and marks margari’s kid first physical release.

french producer moresounds makes a welcome return to cosmic bridge five years after his debut. the paris-based dub scientist was one of the first artist om unit picked for the label and the co-sign helped launch his career, which has since included contributions to astrophonica, doc scotts 31 records, and remixes for machinedrum as well as a growing touring schedule that saw him take his unique live show to asia and america in 2016

ltd 10inch vinyl. dutch producer tmsv makes his return to cosmic bridge after selling out his debut ep, over out. jazz error b/w calavera is a focused effort with a double dose of 160bpm sound system riddims pressed to 10”. calavera cuts a direct line between bass fetichism and rhythmic tension as a heavyweight modulated bassline rubs against cut-up breaks and punchy drums. a sprinkling of vocal samples and hardcore leads add to the mood without distracting from the specific purpose of moving the crowd. on the flip jazz error takes a more traditional approach for a no-less effective result: the tracks rolling drum and bass groove provides a backbone for percussion, dub flourishes, flute melodies and aggressive synth lines to play against each other in turn, providing a contrast of emotions thats all wrong yet so right. tmsvs latest excursion for cosmic bridge affirms his talent as a producer capable of marrying club music and sound system sensibilities effortlessly.
