going further into techno territory, orphan swords come back with a three tracks ep called -license to desire- on paris-based desire records. following the -risk in the new age- ep (2014), this new hypnotic release is probably their most powerful so far, concentrating ebm, minimal techno gristle and industrial electronics. this ep clearly relates to previous efforts such as -caim- that has been described by xlr8r as -the grinding sounds and whirling blasts of white noise position the track directly in the realm of acts like sandwell district and richie hawtin s digressive and hypnotizing plastikman moniker.- make sure to check out the massive epic of asmoday and the textural sophistication of hooker .

founded in september 1981 in orléans, and originally dedicated to a kind of ‘modern punk rock’, d.stop released a first 7’’ the following year. this impossible-to-find debut release is now reissued on vinyl for the first time. the three tracks of the original 7’’ are augmented with 4 tracks that are released on vinyl for the first time ever on this very nice translucent vinyl 10’’ plus download code. after this first 7”, sonny brailleur (vocals) + phil lethon (guitar/bass) + klod lelook (organ, synths, drum-machines) , inspired by french band metal urbain, stylistically transformed into a more ‘synth punk’ kind of outfit and released their first mini-album nouvelles du front in september 1983 that has been reissued by desire on vinyl last september. one year after, the band already ceased to exist – or actually changed the name to les visiteurs du soir – to turn back to the old name in 1985 by releasing a limited cassette. despite the very few releases by this gifted act, d.stop are considered to be one of the most interesting and under-rated cult acts in french cold wave.

cult melbourne band primitive calculators cut a single in 1979 before splitting in the true punk fashion. a posthumous eponymous live album was released in 1981 (also reissued this spring on desire) and that was it. those two tracks are as fresh now as they were more than 30 years ago: in a style not dissimilar to the screamers or cabaret voltaire (circa nag nag nag), primitive calculators used raw monophonic synth lines with scratchy guitars and screaming vocals but the songs were standing on their own (as the unplugged version of do that dance that appears on the primitive calculators and friends 1979-82 could testify. the original 7 inch is now incredibly rare and hard to find and this reissue is its exact replica. first pressing limited to 500 copies.

originally released in a limited edition of 500 copies in 1982 monoton’s second album ‘monotonprodukt 07’ is now a collector item and also one of the most important album of all-time. it has been voted one of the 100 best records by highly influential uk magazine the wire. monoton was founded in 1979 by hypermedia wizard konrad becker as an art project that underwent various transformations and collaborations in its exploration of psycho-active sound. a pioneer in experimental electronic music, becker continued to break new ground in electronic media. monotonprodukt 07 has been reissued on vinyl by desire (and is still available as a double picture-discs limited to 500 copies. it’s the first time ever that tracks from the album are remixed and desire is proud to had such great artists/producers as us prositutes, svengalighost with fellow partner and l.i.e.s. boss and hospital productions artist ron morelli. the last remix is the work of great mancunian duo rainer veil (modern love). an incredible remix package that do justice to this classic album ! mastered by matt colton at alchemy.

jbla came into being after julian jöckel (midnightopera) and stuart argabright (ike yard, black rain, o13) performed at a party in brussels on the 5th of oct. 2012 on invitation from bernardo risquez & michael langeder (different fountains). they all had met for the first time the year before through michael kreitz from meakusma when different fountains & o13 played concerts in eupen. after staying at different fountains studio the day after the brussels event they set up a rather improvised jam session. julian played synth on a yamaha dx7, bernardo worked the low frequencies on an old eminent organ while michael contributed machine sounds and took care of the live fx engineering. stuart put together some words and brought a beat to the occasion of the jam session at the df studio. during the short euro tour with ike yard, l.i.e.s label head ron morelli and artist svengalisghost came to the paris show and were talking with stuart about the streetwalkers of belleville, specifically the sad chinese hookers out on the street. combined with news about recent foxxconn workers suicides in china and witnessing altercations close to the air bnb where he stayed. the belleville ep are two cuts from that session with remixes from ron morelli + svengalisghost and vereker, pressed on translucent vinyl.

ike yard came into being as no wave passed on, industrial was in the air and proto-techno had yet to be coined. propulsive, paranoid, aggressive electro minimalism, with as much attention paid to the mixing board and effects processors as to vocals, guitar and synth. at once starker and more fully-formed than virtually all other contemporaneous post-punk music. desires 2012 edition represents the first ever vinyl reissue of this classic, prophetic album. the line-up for the third remix ep includes a great deal of diverse music.
