moscow head-honcho archie hamilton teams up with cousin benson herbert for another collaborative ep on the imprint, bosteled via a club ready reshape from s.a.m. having already garnered support from some of the biggest names in minimal house, including raresh and barac, for previous productions, the ‘swerve’ ep is benson’s second, family-affair release on moscow. a promising up and coming talent, benson’s already played some of europe’s most prestigious dancefloors including sub club, fabric and paris’ rex club. as moscow enters its tenth year of releasing the most forward thinking and respected names in house and techno, label boss archie hamilton continues to release across europe’s most highly revered labels, whilst playing the world’s most exciting clubs and festivals including robert johnson, miami music week’s get lost chicago’s spy bar, croatia’s sonus and estonia’s moonland to name a few. ‘swerve’ sets a powerful pace with a rumbling bassline, offset against gorgeously melodic and minimal textures, it’s a roller that will undoubtedly be thriving across dancefloors this summer. informer, is a complex myriad of winding and hypnotic micro-melodies, which serves as a unique and effervescent follow up to the ep’s first track. denmark’s hotly-tipped dj/producer s.a.m is on remix duties for ‘informer’, delivering a jacking slice of dub infused four-four that deftly utilises the haunting riff of the original.

the label’s latest offering comes from hamilton himself, who teams up with panick panick! label owner noha, offering a collaborative ep that is a fitting snapshot into the work of both individuals. the nohamilton ep gets underway with ‘lip service’, a rough-and-ready track with firm emphasis on a grinding, hypnotic loop that easily surpasses your average dj tool. highly finessed and progressing steadily, it’s the perfect example of how to do less with more. looking towards more sun-kissed planes, the duo deliver the ep s a2 track, a more heads- down cut that’s loaded with good-time grooves from the get go. sure to work a charm whenever it’s unleashed, ‘bored of life’ serves up an intriguing insight into both producers’ boundless studio output. romanian duo sit culminate matters with their ‘lip service’ rework. consisting of cristi cons and vlad caia, the pair have been excelling consistently, with both their resident advisor mix and latest release on the iconic sushitech label proving a potent reminder of this. taking the listener down the rabbit hole once more, they inject archie hamilton & noha s original with an eerie sheen, also adding an off-kilter baseline that’s hard not to get lost in. a suitably groove-led but unconventional interpretation, it closes off the ep with the sort of distinction we’ve come to expect from moscow.

following the hypnotic ‘what’s in your head’ ep in 2016, archie hamilton returns to moscow records with his first solo ep on the imprint since the release last year. since finishing 2016 with a place in ra s top 100 djs poll, he’s been touring the world, had a summer residency at amnesia and released another massive ep on fuse. an integral part of the stellar ascent of the brand, and founder at tastemaker label initiatives moscow records, moss co. and arkityp, he is an artist very much in control of his rise. the record opens with confusion, an out and out anthem which has been tearing up dance floors across the globe all summer. a trademark bassline drives the track forward as stabs build, tight percussion cuts through and a repeating vocal enters. then when the track drops it shifts the mood completely, causing any dance floor to bump uncontrollably. dos equis is something different altogether. minimalistic percussion and a tight sub lay the foundations for a funky bass guitar line. warming pads meet rhodes keys and out of nowhere a beautifully subtle vocal line appears. as the track breaks down, a mind bending synth line takes the listener out of their state of reflection. the title track on the flip is a classic piece of groovy hamilton weaponry. a positive mood that bounces along to a whispering voice in the background. the track develops as lush chords permeate the groove, soaking the dance floor in the last of the summer sun to create a euphoric crescendo.

moscow rolls through with a collaboration from founder archie hamilton and musical genius benson herbert, from kerri chandler’s protege duo, voyeur. two original tracks, remixed by the legendary 100hz. the record opens with the wonderfully trippy systim. a driving bassline, barely recognisable vocal snippets and groovy organic percussive elements dance around a haunting piano riff that ebbs and flows throughout the track. tension builds until a second acid bassline is finally revealed, causing dance floor madness. next up herbavibe combines a big bassline, dreamy chords, hamilton’s trademark 303 and a catchy vocal hook to create a certified summer anthem. 100hz uses the entire b side to interpret system into a more classical workout, using the piano elements to their full potential and using minimalistic percussion to keep the listener enthralled. an after party gem that completes the package perfectly

moscow records close 2016 with a fantastic 3-track ep from berlin imports roustam and tolga fidan. this being their first outing together, the pair deliver a high quality, intelligent journey through minimal house and techno. the record opens with brodsky beat, a groovy, dance floor-focused track. lively percussion and tight bass communicate perfectly with the hope-filled lead to build tension throughout. the omega variant on the a2 has a much more abstract feel. broken beats and skippy percussion play back and forth with deep, spacey hooks and a peculiar synth, giving the listener a sense of mystery. finally, growing up is just a phase is a calming 14 minute trip that uses the entirety of the b side to tell a story of reassurance and calm. laid-back rhythms, guitar samples, relaxed vocals and a wandering synth line work together to form the perfect warmup track.

moscow records’ first release of 2016 comes from label boss archie hamilton, remixed by romanian talent ali nasser. the title track on the a side is an uplifting piece of minimal house blending a familiar synth line with a trippy vocal and his characteristic groove. ali nasser’s remix on the flip brings together both classic percussion and synth elements, in a contemporary style, constructing a timeless house classic.
