allow us to introduce creatures of habit. the brainchild of dj/producer brenden wesley, the boston outfit s membership boasts a wild band of guest players, with musical virtuosos and analogue gear whores alike. relentless jam sessions between wesley and close pals chas bronz & robbie roland yielded lustre , their debut offering on the esteemed solardisco label. an aural innuendo anchored by a hypnotic, low-slung bassline, the song deftly trades in warm, flirtatious instrumentation and studio wizardry. through his akult party, brenden s not only honed his chops as a dj, he s befriended a whole host of the new disco cognoscenti. amongst them are brooklyn s own nick chacona, who recently released his debut long player on moodmusic to much acclaim, and dfa darlings runaway, who have been reeled in for remix duties. both artists head straight into house territory with decidedly different results. chacona shoots for the stars with his cosmic take on the original, adding just the right amount of sleaze and putting in one of his finest reworks in recent memory. runaway deepen things out with aplomb, dusting off the rhodes to drive their quirky mix home. connecting the dots between boston and brooklyn discotheques, this ep marks quite the auspicious debut for creatures of habit.

after the much-lauded altair nouveau 12 inch, released in association with dfa, solardisco returns with a fine three track ep from the slovenian boy wonder igor skafar aka ichisan. space patrol is a slice of lindstrom-inspired disco genius , robots from above nods to an italo influence while atanamamo is aimed square at the dancefloor with early support from the likes of aeroplane and pete herbert among others. with releases on eskimo, airtight and rare wiri already under his belt, a debut album (along with co-producer ule nakova) is due out early 2010 on nang, however, not before another release on airtight (with remix from bjorn torske no less), one on jisco/under the shade and a remix of legendary disco outfit space. expect to see/hear much more from ichisan in the very near future!

altair nouveau consists of one brandon mitchell, a young producer from the west coast currently residing in san francisco. altair nouveaus music, though designed with the dance floor in mind, still evokes a personal element. it is the combination of these elements that give altair nouveau his indistinguishable larger than life, spaced-out future disco sound sure to cause a dance floor frenzy. raised in the sprawling city of san jose, california to musical parents. mitchell grew up with the encouragement of his father, an electronic music teacher at the local community college. brandon began educating himself by collecting albums from the likes of giorgio moroder, vangelis, ennio morricone and john carpenter. this gave way to newer acts such as in flagranti, prins thomas, lindstrom and several artists on dfa. the title track æspace fortress marks a bold and exciting introduction into the sonic landscape of mr. nouveau, combining g funk, p funk and a 4/4 disco foundation that adds up to something otherworldly altogether. released as a joint effort with the uber-hip dfa records this 12 features mixes exclusive to this release from ultra-talented irishman john daly who turns out a deeper take while michel morins criminally underrated nom-de-plume sneak-thief takes it deeper into spacey disco-funk territory.

gothenburgs goeran dahlström follows up his rather excellent remix of maelstroms enter the cosmos with his first solo production since 2007s back2back / angel babe the tin man on bear funk. encapsulating a real sense of summer, this sun soaked epic should soundtrack everywhere from california to croatia this year. remix duties fall to the prolific deep space resident brendon moeller who, under his beat pharmacy guise, turns out a more dance floor friendly re rub of the original while full pupps man of the moment blackbelt andersen delivers a fantastic slice of scandobalearic to complete the package. also features on the pizzico records compilation for an old dope, new aesthetics

croatian dj ilija rudman is one of the nu disco scenes most prolific, yet underrated producers. with releases on bear funk, rong music and deep freeze he manages to cascade the electronic disco sound with his own unique production style. counting the likes of luminaries such as greg wilson, darshan jesrani and steve kotey as fans, the ever prolific rudman drops two fine examples of quality nu disco. in motion is metro area esque electronic workout while definition is a more incessant peaktime groove.
