serge born in russia came to the usa in the late 80s, got heavily in hiphop and digging in the crates for breaks and loops as well as production under dj supreme one moniker. he worked with such industrys heavyweights as masta ace, edo g, guru and many more. serge is an avid vinyl collector of soul, funk, jazz, disco, boogie. loads of good music is to come from serge gamesbourg.

javi frias is a dj and producer from madrid that has been playing soul, funk, disco, boogie & house since the mid nineties in clubs and festivals all over his country and europe. always looking for soulful records around the world to make people dance, his dj sets are ever elegant, addictive and eclectic, full of energy and mostly on vinyl. in the last two years he has started to produce his own disco edits, respecting the sound of the original but adding some retouches to make them perfect for the dance floor.

amsterdam based music duo, ana prentice, releases their debut 12inch on street edits. the ep delivers two electronicly inspired disco edits, keeping the true soul of disco alive.

the occasional (but always excellent) street edits series returns, this time with a trio of high-grade scalpel works from chicago re-edit hero rahaan. as usual, the source material is dusty and obscure, and the reworks revelatory. -city of disco- is in many ways typical of rahaan s work, with carefully cuts and loops being used to create a thumping, house style groove (admittedly one that pays due reverence to the source material). there s more of a celebratory, soulful feel about the impeccable -strung out-, which turns a little-known disco-soul gem into a huggable dancefloor classic. best of all, though, is -brighten you up-, which sits somewhere between later electrofunk and early house, a proto-proto gem, perhaps. either way, it s a killer.
