well deserved repress of calibre’s 2016 album “grow”. pressed on 180 gram 4x12 inch vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve with artwork from tns label head craig richards.

“sometimes life can kick you in the nads”, says dominick martin (aka calibre). “when life does do that, i need to make music like this. with its tones of hope and gospel-level layers of self-recorded vocals. raw, uplifting, soulfull...” even to the most ardent of calibre follower, “grow” sounds like nothing else he’s done before. yet it’s not actually on the album it gave a name to. partly because its ultimately positive veneer (even though it was written in the midst of two toxic relationships - one personal, one with the bottle) doesn’t quite complement the deeper, more contemplative aesthetic of the album. but also because this is the start of a whole new story for calibre...

despite building their careers out of strikingly different musical places, both dbridge and radioactive man have taken influence from the field in which each other operate. dbridge (darren white) was part of the iconic drum & bass outfit bad company and he helms one of the scene’s most solid and quality imprints in exit records and radioactive man (keith tenniswood) was born from the acid house scene and the off kilter electronics of his two lone swordsman projects (alongside andrew weatherall) which led him to create his decidedly uk take on drexciyan electro. it’s by no means a stretch to learn that both producers have crates that contain their favourites from each genre but they’ve also found a mutual respect and connection in the studio over the last few years, leading to the dbrm moniker for craig richards’ the nothing special label.

jonny rock a familiar face on the london house and disco scenes is recognized by many for working behind the counter at phonica records & blackmarket records during the 00s and as the dude for playing the guitar in freaks project. rock skillfully joins the dots between the old school house, underground disco and boogie vibes in a party setting.

one sided limited vinyl release: trippy, psychedelic electro-techno romp encouraging dance-floor ruckus and scrambled minds. complete with all manner of bleeps, voice manipulation and otherworldly sound effects.

somewhere between extraterrestrial techno and intergalactic disco lies oli silva. a waveform of multi-dimensional energy filled with analog heart and electric soul. his first outing finds him land his spaceship directly on craig richards the nothing special, with the genre bending unlikely punctuality ep.

chewed up and spat out the other side of the uks acid house scene, neville watson was bitten hard by the house music bug and has not looked back since. his brand of deep, raw and jacking house has been released on labels like clone, dissident, rush hour and creme organisation. neville says: i kind of like music that sounds like it is all about to start falling apart at any given moment. there is plenty of clean music that i do like but as a rule i like it rough.

trevino is the name marcus intalex has adopted for his ventures into house and techno productions. trevino music has been receiving heavy praise and support from top players in the 120-130bpm electronic music scene including scuba, oneman, loefah, & alexander nut. following his first releases for martyns 3024 label and naked lunch, this is his debut release for craig richards label.

after the success of the nothing special events a label of the same name begins. the events so far have been held at fabric of course and new york. the concept is simply that craig plays all night around live acts. previous guests have been pole, deadbeat, moritz von oswald trio, emperor machine, convextion, dopplereffekt. 2652, shackleton and conforce. the depth of craigs musical knowledge as a dj provides a sense of structure to the parties. the nothing special in weekly radio show format commences imminently. first release is by radionasty - the combined force of billy nasty and keith tenniswood.
