excellent 80s / italo infected (balearic) disco ep

in the 18 months since his brilliant debut release for we play house, luv jam has been steadily building his profile with a number of releases, and now he returns on vibrations with his first full ep of material since that auspicious first record. the eps a-side is a typically lush foray into stripped back, slo-mo house, with opener tough future utilizing little more than a 303 bassline and 909 kick to slowly build up to its raindrop crescendo, and >rubber band< employing a number a dreamy synths atop its tense, gurgling bass. the pace picks up on the b-side with >last floor hotel (mega mix)< upping the tempo and going into full on acid mode, with its furious pace accented with frenetic cowbell hits and industrial textures. the ep closes with >elastic band< a deeper excursion into jacking house, characterized by its flurry of handclaps, weighed up by its rubbery bassline.

vibrations 003 comes from asian project. aka bobby coulman from soft rocks flying solo and working with julian bendall from bah samba et al. >kadjhani express< is a mid-tempo excursion of chugging drums, dubby elements and beautiful sitar. music to get lost in! >distant love< is classic deep house done the way it should be – this cut blew our minds when we first heard it! remix duties fall to washington dcs protect-u and they take the track on an analogue headtrip from chicago to japan… unique and wonderful.

vibrations is a new label set up by christopher galloway and piers harrison of roots unit. the first release comes from the ever-dependable and very busy mark e, who drops two killer jams for the dancefloor. escape is a bassline driven banger that drops into a hefty loop half-way through – large. the flip, midnight fires, is a more introspective, techno influenced cut, with crazy jazzy drums and swirling synths. we are thinking about early morning dancefloors for this one. escape is also remixed by roots unit, who add chicago house elements within a reggae aesthetic.

slight delay aka tiago makes a welcome addition to the vibrations camp with this supreme e.p of leftfield house. *west sonic vibe* is a deep eastern infused tropical gem with *party over* taking on a harder edge on the same mystical journey. oz producer of the moment inkswel takes on the remix duties and rocks *party over* into a slower funked up, bass line heavy trip via sugarhill.

nice price deal !!! vibrations are fast gaining a reputation as britains finest exponent of vintage-leaning, analogue jack music, and this ep from the mysterious last floor hotel is another winner to add to their list of fine releases.

vibrations 002 comes from lhas, aka jaime read, who is here to show all these new old-school house heads precisely where to step off. a longtime cohort of foolish felix, who was horribly ripped off by a chicago legend (just google it) and the man to go to when you want _that_ vintage synth sound spotted, jaime knocks out four tracks that arent retro – they are timeless. from the classic chi-jack of >learning to live< to the swirling syncopation of >call that jazz<, these four tracks eschew rigid programming and live, breathe and ooze musicality. no remixes, just 100% lhas.
