Raindance dates back to 1988 when it was produced by Marshall Jefferson and featured Byron Stinglys distinctive falsetto voice. However, despite being intended as the follow up to the classic I Cant Stay Away it never ended up seeing the light of day due to contractual complications involving another artist covering the song.
Back in his days running Republic Records Dave Lee was in NYC for the New Music Seminar and heard Raindance in Redzone early one morning - he never forgot about the song.
Fast forward 20 years and Dave is having an “unreleased garage” conversation with another vinyl junkie and decided to contact Mr Jefferson purely to get a copy of “Raindance” so he could hear it again. Surprised that anyone remembered the song Marshall said he didn’t have a master copy of it but managed to track down the original multi-track tapes in Chicago and after Dave eventually got to check it out again it was agreed that “Raindance” would finally get a release 20 years later than originally planned on Z Records.
Dave has mixed down the song using only the original parts to keep the authentic old school vibe and to bring “Raindance” bang up to date Rocco has been drafted in to provide a more techy electronic mix that still features plenty of Byron Stingly’s vocals.
If you like your house music then this is akin to a rock fan discovering an early unreleased Led Zeppelin song, so please support this to the max
