After their New York City debut earlier this year, the buzz on Jessica 6 began to brew. The group which features bassist Andrew Raposo, keyboardist Morgan Wiley and singer/songwriter Nomi Ruiz (of Hercules & Love Affair), who all met while on the 2008 Hercules & Love Affair tour, have been hard at work in the studio cultivating a sound that is equally dark as it is sexy, soulful and ready for the dance floor.
In 2004 Morgan and Andrew began touring the world with DFA produced hip hop band Automato while Nomi released her debut album "Lost In Lust" and hit the road with Deborah Harry, Antony & The Johnsons and CocoRosie. It wasn't until the three shared the stage in 2008 that they realized their synergy which inspired them to form Jessica 6.
Their first single was a 7” of 'Fun Girl', and the buzz around the internet started way before it's May release. It was called "spooky and mesmerizing" by Arjan Writes and Urb Magazine said Jessica 6 had a "lush, rich sound that is Vanity 6 meets Inner City".
Now Midnight Sun Sound and Jessica 6 are excited to offer this LTD vinyl taster for the forthcoming digi-EP of remixes of “Fun Girl”.
The Liv Spencer remix generated some noise when Tim Sweeny debuted it with his own 6 minute dub edit on his “Beats in Space” show last month. Olivier Spencer has been gaining prominence with releases and remixes under various aliases on A Touch Of Class, DFA, Eskimo, Mule Musiq, and Warp, especially his work as part of House Of House, and Still Going.
The worldwarwalter remix is by a little known but legendary figure in the NYC scene, named Walter Durkacz. Walter is more of a “behind the scenes” kinda guy, but he DJed and booked talent at an incredible list of NY clubs, like Danceteria, Pyramid Club, the Mudd Club, Wetlands, The Ritz, and The World.
