Tony Christie is fast approaching his 50th anniversary in the music industry and to celebrate, new label Acid Jazz put him back in the studio to make an album that takes him back to his roots. >Now s The Time!< boasts a collection of original and new well-crafted soul songs that have been beautifully conceived and movingly delivered. There are nods to Johnny Cash and Spaghetti Westerns, and collaborations come from Jarvis Cocker and Roisin Murphy.
The first single to be released from the album, ‘Nobody In The World’, is a northern soul British beat tour de force, a stomping love song that cleverly takes this much in vogue sound and blends it with the classic Christie sound.
‘Now’s The Time!’ is the follow up to his 2008 critically acclaimed release ‘Made In Sheffield’ that saw the renowned singer revered for his “everlasting voice” (Clash) and “triumphant return” (The Times), “Christie is cool again…” (Evening Standard). After touring he returned to the studio to record the new album with producer Richard Barrett from All Seeing I. Most recently Tony Christie has fulfilled a long life dream to appear in the West End as he debuted in ‘Dreamboats & Petticoats’ to rave reviews and boosted ticket sales.
Tony Christie has arguably made the album of his impeccable career showcasing his iconic status as one of Britain’s greatest singers.
In 2011 Christie will embark on a 50-date UK tour to celebrate his 50 years treading the boards.
