Summer has come early. The Fog is literally lifting and willing the summer to come early with this excellent EP for Metroline. Lead track Diggler’s Job is a breezy house number with pimping keys and a beautiful bass bounce. There’s plenty of movement in the percussion and a light touch that just begs for summer to come. Shout Romance is a shade tougher with its up-front kicks and acid-tinged bassline. It has slow burn intensity that is nicely counterbalanced by smooth reverb-soaked vintage synths. The Jackspot Remix of Shout Romance really brings out the funk in those synths, underpinning that with down-the line percussion and skittering hats that give the track a real drive. Rounding things up nicely is In The Right Mood. The track’s bassline is sticky, sweet treacle over which congas and vocal cuts are expertly sprinkled to create a tasty treat. It never gets sickly though… horns are deployed sparingly, and the track has the same cool as a cucumber minimalism that makes this EP pure pleasure on the eardrums
