Nice Price Deal !!! Brand new label, Black Key Records teams up with the hotly tipped Jonny Cade for a superb EP of deliciously deep house, backed with a remix from Ethyl …
Black Key Records is a new, Brighton based label focusing on quality deep house and to kick things off they have joined forces with a producer whose name seems to be cropping up in all the right places. At 22 years old Jonny Cade is one of the new breed of artists set to make their mark. He has been DJʼing for a number of years now, but it is with his production work over the last twelve months that people have really started to give him their attention. Two solo singles for Loco records received heavy support and his collaborative single with deep house hero Huxley on the Kolour Recordings imprint
brought further attention.
Now Cade steps up with a new solo offering in the shape of the ʻGroß Vater EPʼ. The release kicks off with the original version of ʻVertigoedʼ, a superb slice of tech infused deep house with a warm organic feel to it. Subtle keys, tightly edited vocals, rich bass and understated percussion all work to create a track that has real depth and character and is bound to find favour on dancefloors for months to come.
Following the original, the awesome Ethyl (Tsuba, Freerange, Quintessentials) gets to work on the remix, bring his own take on things with added layers and textures of sound that bring another dimension whilst retaining the character of the original track, quality stuff as you would expect.
Finally we have closing cut, ʻPlatipussyʼ which journeys deeper still with a combination of lightly infused melodic elements and a hypnotic mix of tight rhythms and bass. Snatches of soulful male vocals add to the vibe and the addition of sax parts and a Marimba style melody lift the record towards a floorfilling climax.
A great first release from a label who clearly know good music and a further notch on the musical belt of a producer who is certain to be a key player in the months and years ahead.
