Typically commissioned to extend the life of a hot-selling single, Culprit bucks the trend by delivering a remix package of Gavin Herlihy’s ‘Endless Feeling’ immediately after the EP release – a testament to the label’s faith in Gavins work and the richness of its sound.
The excellent remixers brought on board shared the same excitement for Gavin Herlihy’s beautifully crafted slabs of modern house, with Visionquest’s Shaun Reeves paired with Culprit stalwart Inxec, mulletover’s Geddes and Noir hotshot Larse all delivering their sophisticated interpretations. Also sharing a strong or developing connection with Culprit, the world-class producers were as such afforded total creative freedom in their approach. Both Geddes and Inxec/Reeves opted to rework the moodily understated B-side ‘Tell Me What You Need,’ while Larse tackled the vibrant A-side ‘Endless Feeling’.
Larse imbues Herlihy’s dance-floor filler ‘Endless Feeling’ with his patented warm groove, immaculately polished and precise. This version has been a staple in the sets of label bosses Droog, and included in their November Mixmag podcast. On the flip, Inxec/ Shaun Reeves go for a more synth-heavy feel in their rework of ‘Tell Me What You Need’ with Reeves focusing on the tight drum programming and Inxec tackling the melodic textures. Next up, Geddes strips the track to the core and drops a more late night oriented vibe with a darker groove and subtle electronic acid layers bubbling under the surface, building tension.
Inxec, Geddes and Shaun Reeves are all important players in the Culprit orbit. The Herilhy remix is Chris “Inxec’s” fourth piece of Culprit output, having contributed to two EPs of original material and a remix previously. Geddes has been a guest at the infamous Culprit Sessions rooftop parties in LA, and as a young label owner, DJ, emerging star producer and a force behind his own esteemed party series, Geddes is a kindred spirit to the Droog collective behind Culprit.
It’s hard to believe this will be Reeves first ever work on Culprit, as he’s been a long-standing friend of the label and regular visitor to LA for over four years. Having shared the DJ controls with Gavin Herlihy’s in Ibiza and around Europe this past summer, Reeves was enthused about the remix project and was an all-around natural choice. Larse is one of the true emerging stars of 2011 with the slew of high quality breakthrough releases. He was actively sought out for the task of remixing ‘Endless Feeling’. He rose to the challenge with great confidence and aplomb, setting the stage for another great year for the German producer.
