Gabriel Andruzzi, multi-instrumentalist and core member of DFAs beloved The Rapture, debuts his solo moniker DJ Druzz vs. Omega Mus on his own Throne of Blood imprint. Designed for maximum dancefloor impact, >Apeman< reveals new shades of primal funkiness hitherto unexplored by man... The title track thumps along with a swagger in its step, while tambourines, deep toms and simian grunts rattle and shake into rhythmic abandon. Meanwhile, audacious, finely-detuned synth acrobatics form the backbone of the track and evoke a sense of careening blindly through the jungle canopy.
The first remix comes from Bohemian Groove, a musical partnership comprised of Torontans Jokers of the Scene (Fools Gold) and Renaissance Man's Ville Haimala (Turbo Recordings/Made To Play). Building from the source material, they transform "Apeman" into a tropical bass behemoth, upping the booty-thumping quotient with a whomping sub bass drum and cavernous reverbs.
A remix from Detroit resident Monty Luke (Black Catalogue/Planet E/Mothership) launches "Apeman" into orbit, fitting the original to a classic floor-friendly house template while introducing a cosmic organ line and vertiginous analog string pads.
Closing out the release, "More Fucking Apes" riffs liberally on a similar tip, swapping out the visceral synths of "Apeman" for a dubbier, more skanked-out vibe. However, a breakdown into a soaring portamento organ solo ultimately subjects the dance floor to the law of the apeman.
