machinists is a new label from the people that brought you misericord, ewan pearson and sasse lindblad. eschewing the backroom and the balearic, the machinists are analogue production obsessives showcasing strictly contemporary dancefloor aesthetics. detroit neo-classicism and love letters to the old-school are strictly verboten: this is future body music. first up is stockholm's markus enochson. the lo-fi machine-funk of 'these won't put me down' caught ewan's ear in 2009 and he enquired after more. mr enochson marshalled his system 100, his oberkorn and his publison and here we are. opening proceedings is 'bohoo'. originally to be tucked away on the b-side this has garnered such good reactions in ewan's sets that we flipped it and gave the track pride of place at a1. when a dark chattering analogue groove is finally punctuated by the john carpenter riff people go wild. joining it on side a is the hypnotic heavy-assed warehouse chant of 'boy'. the aa-side 'bad choice' is jackhammer disco-techno, funky-like a train with careering industrial drums that threaten to de-rail the whole thing, only to give way to a synth fanfare at the last minute.
