Modern Primitivism, the fifteenth release on Get The Curse Music comes from the label head Clement Meyer. A 3-track 12 inch that showcases a new, albeit logical, direction for the producer, now blending Electronic Body Music, industrial, downbeat and 70s electronics in its own raw, moody & distinctive style. As a counterpart to the left-field vibe on the EP, Lumigraphs remix (OPAL TAPES, MISTER SATURDAY NIGHT) is a techno bomb ready to serve the dancefloor.
CHRONOMANIC (PT1 & 2) With a heavy broken beat as its starting point, the track builds up by adding layer upon layer of percussion and distorted synth sounds. A syncopated bass line and trippy risers make an appearance halfway through for maximum effect, the result is an ominous track influenced by the industrial groove of Electronic Body Music (EBM) but moving in a very special circle of its own.
RED BAND TRAILERThis downbeat track explores the possibilities offered by clocking at the 100 BPM mark. With a plodding beat and an irresistibly narcotic atmosphere which contrasts with the hard hitting drum programming, an elastic groove sets things in motion and injects a dose of weirdness to this unique cut.
BUCHLA’S THEMEThe last of the original tracks on the EP is a tripped out, downbeat track with a groove reminiscent a heartbeat's pulse. With sound design inspired by modular synthesis, this track is all about letting the artist's uncanny sensibility for abrasive electronic music to shine through.
CHRONOMANIC LUMIGRAPH REMIXDublin's Lumigraph (OPAL TAPES, MISTER SATURDAY NIGHT) delivers a remix that is both irresistibly jackin' and mind altering. Driven by machine groove given the lo-fi treatment, this cut manages to feel abrasive and industrial on one hand as well as funky and warm on the other. Tape delay is used on several of the track's percussive and melodic elements, creating a fluid and psychedelic effect. As an exercise in controlled noise and an impressive hybrid of techno and industrial approaches to sound, this is a deadly tool ready for action but also a terrific track in its own right, ready to set dance floors alight.
