2015 saw producer extraordinaire Obas Nenor unleashing some of his strongest work to date. With acclaimed releases on Moodymann’s Mahogani Music and on Strictly Rhythm, Obas continues his organic mixture of live instrumentation laced with samples. Tonight marks the first release on his own imprint, Nenorion Music, a chunk of versatile, layered dancefloor goodness that sets the bar high for future releases and stretches the limits of the EP format. Already support from Mr.G, Gerd, Jimpster, Jason Hodges, Tensnake, Sleazy McQueen, Jacques Renault, Luke Solomon, Deep Space Orchestra, Soul Clap, Duncan Gray, Horse Meat Disco, 6th Borough Project, Nachtbraker…
“Curry Rush” is a straight dancefloor scorcher tested without flaws on the unsuspecting crowds before finally making its way to the pressing plant.
The title track “Tonight” takes on a different direction with its swirling cosmic jazz vibes, vibrating synths and dreamy vocals courtesy of frequent collaborator, Karolina.
Dripping with fat and soul, “My Hopes” is a slice of a feel-good lush disco that is simply irresistible. If your dancefloor can't feel this one, you better check for pulse. Last but not least is “The Spirit”, a more laid back psychedelic affair with repetitive chants, pulsating bass and killer flute bits gliding on top of the elevating drum patterns.
This is a dense EP with live instrumentation and warm, analogue sound esthetics. It benefits from a kaleidoscopic range of influences and styles without ever losing the plot or straying from its own identity. No fillers, guaranteed.
