Spencer Parker drops ‘Dance Music’, his second long player under his given name, via his own Work Them Records imprint.
There was no real concept behind the album, all I knew is that I wanted to do something honest,” says Spencer Parker. The tracks I make are the tracks I play in my sets and tracks I want people to dance to - that’s where the title comes from.
Since the Berlin-based Brit dropped his debut ‘A Gun For Hire’ LP in 2011 he’s continued to flourish as a DJ, Producer and A&R.
Under his secret moniker Itsnotover, he dropped a series of lauded releases later assembled into an album in 2014, further establishing Parker as a respected producer.
A core member of Radio Slave’s Rekids, Parker’s own Work Them Records is his main focus since 2012, nurturing relatively new talent like Anetha, Dan Beaumont, Setaoc Mass and P.Leone as well as inviting a wealth of friends like DJ Deep, Rødhäd, ItaloJohnson, DJ Richard and DJ Fett Burger to contribute.
Meanwhile, there’s no performer like Parker – A DJ who segues between house, techno and disco, making him an in-demand spinner at venues like Panorama Bar and Concrete.
Spanning twenty-two tracks comprised of dancefloor weapons separated by recordings from various places around the world, ‘Dance Music’ is Parker’s largest body of work to date and is structured similarly to one of his DJ sets.
The album moves between melodic numbers like ‘Emotional Tendencies’ and ‘Faster Forward’, uncompromising club cuts like the rave inspired ‘The Power’ or techno roller ‘Cash Only’, not to mention the stuttering ‘Nights And Weekends’.
Interspersed interludes act as a snapshot into Parker’s experiences travelling, whether that’s taxi journeys to and from the club, a Mundo Meza exhibition at the MOCA in LA, or
the sound of a girl’s heels walking down the street.
I’m lucky to have been travelling for a long time now and wanted to incorporate a little bit of that life into the album but ultimately I wanted to put out something that was true to what I do and what I play as a DJ. Everything always comes back to DJing for me and the joy of playing music you love to others
