After a short sabbatical, Birmingham based Shadow City Records return with a killer four-track EP from Tom Jarmey. At just 20, Tom’s approach is super slick and has seen him receive critical acclaim following releases on 13th Hour and De La Groove. Laden with breaks, strap in for a journey through the Underworld.
‘Crawler’ combines toasty pads, hazy vocals and infectious breaks to create a classic rave mood, evocative of times gone by. The tune builds with a snare roll flurry which persists throughout. Tension builds as we anticipate what else the Underworld has to offer.
A2 features a melancholy acid line which guides us through Jade’s Underworld. Full of energy and purpose, the tune crescendos into a hard-hitting synth line, afterwards breaking down to let us gather our thoughts before exploring the rest of the Underworld.
Next, we meander into the deepest part of the Underworld, Mariana. The intricate relationship between all aspects of this tune makes it flow effortlessly, quietly beckoning us deeper and deeper into the abyss. Overcome by a sense of belonging, it all seems to make sense, we resurface gasping for air.
With a slick bassline at its heart, we draw to a close with Vanishing Point. The world around us disappears and we’re left wishing we could turn back the clock and do it all over again.
