Von Miles' Debütauftritt bei der NJF im Jahr 1955 (eine eilig arrangierte Jamsession mit Thelonious Monk und Gerry Mulligan) bis zu seinem letzten öffentlichen Auftritt in den 70er Jahren im Jahr 1975 zeichnet die Box den Aufstieg von Miles' Musik zu dem Jazz-Superstar nach, als der er bekannt geworden ist.
