born in redlands, california in 1980, marquis howell grew up in a lovely way. raised to appreciate hand-me-downs, secondhand goods & older influences, he started imitating chuck berry riffs on air guitar in elementary school to impress the girls. having little to no luck with the invisible instrument & with many promises & persuasions, his parents bought him his first guitar. marquis took lessons at the local guitar shop and as often as possible he would practice 4 or more hours a day.

ursprünglich als theater-musik für das anton podbevšek theatre in novo mesto in slovenien konzipiert, basiert -also sprach zarathustra- auf szenen aus friedrich nietzsches gleichnamigen philosophischen roman. für das album wurden passagen mit dem rtv slovenia symphonic orchestra aufgenommen. laibach haben in ihrer 35-jährigen kariere schon mehrfach musik für theater-produktionen eingespielt. so ist beispielsweise auf mute bereits das album -macbeth- erschienen, welches der überarbeitete score für die peter zadek inszenierung am hamburger schauspielhaus darstellt. neben instrumental-stücken sind hier auch titel enthalten, die von rezitation des sängers milan fras und dem gesang von mina Špiler getragen werden. im besten sinne: klassisch laibach!

rich la bonte is a musician, writer and editor from upstate new york born in 1946. at age 11 he figured out how to record a piano backwards with his first tape deck and discovered monk, mingus and art blakey. in 1965 rich moved to ithaca, bought an electric guitar and started singing in garage rock band the huns. after the band dissolved, he moved to nyc and played bass and sang in the original cast production of the musical godspell. in the late 70s la bonte moved to hollywood with shari famous, released a a few 7” singles as dada2, and started flatdisk records, a vinyl subsidiary of dave gibson s moxie record company.

diy - also „do-it-yourself“ - hat eine große bedeutung in joey agrestas leben. er stammt aus new jersey und lebt über einem ersatzteile-shop. „let’s not talk about music“ entstand in über drei jahren, in denen joey agresta die lieder in seinem schlafzimmer-studio einspielte. computer wurden für die aufnahmen bewusst vermieden, neben regulären instrumenten nutzt joey agresta selbstgebastelte gerätschaften und bannt die klänge auf mehrspur-kassettengeräte. lo-fi als bewusste ästhetische entscheidung. unter pseudonymen wie joey pizza slice, son of salami oder salami junior hat er diverse kassetten veröffentlicht und so die aufmerksamkeit von bands wie future islands und the parquet courts gewonnen, die erklärte fans sind.
