for those turned on by the far-sighted, sci-fi inspired sounds of detroit deep house and techno, this ep from michael zucker s finale underground imprint (an offshoot of his finale sessions label) should be an essential purchase. with the likes of patrice scott, keith worthy and luke hess involved, you d expect the quality threshold to be high. it is, of course, resulting in a quartet of killer tracks. hess hypnotic techno jam -tolox- is a definite highlight, though it pales in comparison to the analogue futurism of keith worthy s brilliant -cyclops-. best of all, though, is scott s -journey into the unknown-, which bobs, weaves, bubbles and spits to the rush-inducing deep house sound of undulating synthesizer melodies and classic, transmat-style motor city rhythm

michigan central station built in 1913 for the michigan central railroad, was detroit, michigans passenger rail depot from its opening in 1913 until the discontinuance of amtrak service on january 6, 1988. at the time of its construction, it was the tallest rail station in the world. the building, located in the corktown district of detroit still stands today, though it remains unoccupied. restoration projects and plans have gone as far as the negotiation process, but none have come to fruition. spread throughout the city of detroit and its surrounding metropolitan area, the decay of once magnificent buildings during the industrial revolution and automobile era now cast a shadow of despair on a once flourishing city. these monuments of achievement now lay barren and forsaken by city government. infrastructural restoration and city development are fundamental elements in detroits recovery, and the recovery of cities worldwide. it is time for revival in our cities, but first, in our souls. the michigan central station ep is a platform for this change.

deeplabs is a new record label out of detroit created and managed by detroit producer and dj luke hess. after several highly successful releases on labels such as fxhe, echocord, beretta grey, & kontra-musik and celebrated remixes on ornaments, pong musiq, and modelisme, luke has decided to take his style of deep detroit techno and root it firmly in the city that inspires his sound. deeplabs is a label created for the deeper, soulful, and experimental side of electronic music, with a clear vision of the dj and the dance-floor.

beretta grey presents the second record by detroit duo >reference< a.k.a. luke hess & brian kage.. >reference vs. vol 1<, consists of collaboration with other key beretta grey artists ryan crosson and seth troxler. each song was carefully developed by all artists simultaneously. sessions were held at interstellar studios in detroit with all artists present. the initial musical concepts were recorded and written. next, the songs were sent back and forth until the finished product was agreed upon by all parties. in this fashion, the music created provides the character and soul of each artist, but fused together in a way that creates a more detailed account. one perspective alone does not capture the whole story. in this release, a feeling is captured by four artists, giving the listener a bigger picture, which helps to better capture the concepts of sound as it relates to a moment in time

very talented minimal artists, and already receiving support from richie hawtin, grey comes storming out of the gates with this minimal gem! keith kemp (grey/ferrispark/frik-n-frak) is featured on a1 with a steady, groovy jam that slowly builds the tension with an oscillating synth stab that morphs into a full on experience of a tune. luke hess is up next with >dwell< a deep and moody track that has attitude as well as emotion, taking the listener on a real ride. on the flip, ryan crosson (m_nus/trapez/grey) flexes his minimal muscle on this bouncy and energetic late night workout using great percussive elements as well as a big analogue bass stabs that carry the tune into the depths

very limited marbled vinyl. kontakt records presents two highly sought-after tracks by danish artist christian bloch. both tracks have been officially remastered after careful restoration from the original master tapes. after releasing on his own funque droppings imprint in the late 90ties christian had several successful releases on simple muzik, ll records and tresor and soon after he relocated to detroit to pursue his musical dream. luke hess and rolando contributed with two outstanding remixes of the original tracks.
