we once again have the pleasure of introducing a new unit comprised of some old friends to the world! luces is felix bloxsom, otherwise known as plastic plates, and caleb cornett, a.k.a. amtrac, and its here on lph that they make their debut with habitual ritual, a big-room epic with an undercurrent of classic deep house and disco vibes running through it. the three originals included in the package are driven, pumping whompers that crescendo and dissolve into breakdowns sublimely. the remix, by autofac (shit robot, juan maclean) is a dubby, stretch-out take on the titular track. prime-time fodder for club floors and pump-up mixes alike

we finished 2015 with a six-track jumbo ep from borrowed identity and thought we d repeat the same trick for 2016, though this time with originals from okayama-based producer keita sano. eye begins with keep an eye out, pt.2, a propulsive song that sounds like a lost contender for the knight rider theme. own signal keeps things dark, but with a spartan bleakness. the side finishes with smoker, another manic cut that ll give you chills. the flip finds keita exploring brighter sounds without losing that industrial, jagged edge. trmk is essentially a beat track that ll ignite any dance floor and fix is a herky-jerky ditty that ll get you stomping around the club like a possessed reveler. the 12inches cherry on top is think twice, a funky ass-shaker that centers around a crackly sample of crowd noise, a chopped-up disco vocal, and bouncy bass. a fiery finale for this hedonistic party.

over the course of his twenty-plus-year-long career, luke solomon has made one hell of a name for himself: he has released dozens of singles and eps on labels like crosstown rebels, rekids, cajual, and playhouse, to name a few, founded his own imprint, classic, with longtime friend and co-conspirator, derrick carter, dropped four albums, and had a hand in well over 100 remixes. as one might expect, it is a tremendous honor to now welcome the veteran dj and producer to lph, where we think he fits in perfectly, despite being the artist in our ranks with the most impressive tenure.

a return to france for lamour existe encore, a young producer named larozes debut on lph. a giddy jaunt through sun-kissed house with smatterings of filter fiddling, punchy horns, bright strings, chopped-up vocals. twenty-five minutes of many dj sets to come right here.

a fireball to accelerate our post-winter thawing. spanish producer pepes first foray on lph. it starts off unassumingly, with a bright, airy beach boogie thats all gentle drums and trebly synth figurations, but it quickly turns its eye to the strobe-lit nightclub, first with delusions of grandeur, an angular hypnosis of syncopated rhythms, then with aerial, a 130 bpm blitz with an epic build and an equally dramatic breakdown. capping it off is 50 am, which, as the name indicates, is a woozy shuffle thatll help you land the plane nice and easy.

as summer sets into fall, we deliver an ep that functions like one of those lights-on hand-clappers you get when the djs been asked to kill the music at the end of a long, sweaty night but for the season. its a last-ditch effort to keep the sun shining and the temperature high, a final bid to keep the days starting early and ending late. we know the inevitable is around the corner, but for a moment more we can pretend its not.

summertime funtime courtesy of... someone from somewhere. who know? “liwando” is madchester rave culture with a disco underbelly and a bongo and conga fervor. jacques renault’s mix somehow manages to cram a few more sticks of dynamite into the mix, beefing up the funkiness quotient (that bass!) and embellishing the breakdowns (that horn!) “didn’t i (acid version)” is definitely the afterward to “liwando,” a joyous, soaring encore that has, yes, a touch of acid folded in.

in 2015, something magical happened. we met a couple of talented young swedes named artur bra&#776,ndstro&#776,m and egil kahlbom who excelled at composing and producing these lighthearted, breezy disco-hued house tracks (or house- hued disco tracks, perhaps) that both fit the aesthetic and character of lph and brought something new into the fold. the result of that first encounter was marathons, a full-length album, their debut to the world, and now, two years later, we re back for the much-anticipated follow-up. rehearsal is a little briefer than its predecessor—it s five tracks—and has a markedly different tone, one that s less about dusty, sun-bleached samples and more about tightly-engineered and delicately-crafted songs. if the first effort was marked by its carefree naivete&#769,, the sophomore effort is, well, something a bit more advanced or, perhaps, rehearsed. what hasn t changed, though, is these guys ability to home in on grooves and coax something trasncednetally hooky, memorable out of them. the five tracks contained here are low-key in attitude but powerful and punchy in approach. they re uniquely juicy, nourishing numbers for mellow hours and fearlessly fun ditties for party hours. lots of love went into the lot of them, and we hope all s you feel when you let them wash over you is that. love

keita sano returns to lets play house with another album, the physical iteration of which we are presenting as two separately-packed 12-inch eps. first is kubo, a sharp and cutting collection of four house ditties that are equal parts eccentrically off-kilter and warmly welcoming, esoterically out there and remarkably familiar, in a way only sano can pull off.

with totsu , we complete our two-part keita sano album. this one, like kubo before, is a fiery maelstrom of house and disco dance floor destruction that has a dusting of that impossible-to-place keita sano absurdity. a magnetic sprint through mpc-fueled workouts, trance-y space-outs, and loopy hypnotizers. together, kubo and totsu make up oototsu , an eight-track long-player that will be made available as special limited-edition vinyl double-pack.

late last year, we modestly celebrated the sixth anniversary of lph records by releasing a 10-inch that reconnected us with our very first ep by bringing back two of the artists who contributed to it, runaway and soft rocks. now, as a sort of companion to that, we have lph___vi , a 7-inch that gives shine to a couple other names that have been spotted on lph party flyers of old and back catalog credits, jacques renault and daniel t. both these are fun, flavorful little disco nugs united by funky bass guitar fretwork and plenty of sassy woodblock, though jacques leans towards the goofy and daffy, whereas daniels brings some synth-pop seriousness into the frame. as befits the format, both hover around four minutes in length.

at long last, mr. jacob korn gets drafted into team lph! technically,hes been in our orbit since 2015, when he remixed a leo wölfel track for lph white, but it s only now that we re presenting an ep of originals by him. about time! my business is classic korn a little nerdy (intricate arrangements twisty, turny top-line melodies), a little ravey, a little goofy, a little feisty, and a lotta fun. four sure-shot firebombs that ll slip into any set, hand in glove, real nice. try em out. wield em well.

a little over six years ago, let s play house because, in earnest, with a 12-inch called indoor pool. fittingly, the track it revolved around was by runaway, the duo comprised of marcos cabral and jacques renault, and featured remixes by some tight friends of the imprint, beautiful swimmers, slow hands, and soft rocks. we thought it d be fun to celebrate our birthday for once, but not with something too obvious (e.g. a compilation) or too involved (e.g. a warehouse party blowout). what we came up with is this, a 10-inch that reflects a little of the past into the present. appropriately, it includes edits by two of the artists on that debut ep. runaway s is a dusted-off and remixed secret weapon from the act s early days while soft rock s is classic soft rocks, albeit from a more current vintage (it was recorded this year). both absolutely rock. a little twisted, a little tilted, a little tipsy, but, as always, tight and tidy. funny how, since 2009, everything has changed and nothing has changed at all for this label of ours.

the man behind church records and half the force propelling coastal haze, seb wildblood, jumps over to let s play house for a laid back, suave four tracker that ll smooth out that transition we re all going through as summer fades and the embers of autumn begin to burn brighter. necessary happiness, the first track, a improvisatory, noodly deep house ambler, sets the pace and tone. from there, the british producer ups the tempo a bit and explores the darker contours of red light-lit basement caves and after- hours haunts with the ep s title track. the flip is briefer: necessary happiness (mad sax mix) is an embellished and brighter reprise of the a1, and“pass the pen is a loose instrumental that has the bones of a break beat interlude built atop a jazzy hip-hop beat. is that a dewy sea mist on the horizon at dawn or a heavy cloud of smoke machine fog veiling a strobe in the middle of the night?

wrapping up the summer with a bit of a 90s throwback number by st. david, &#8203,, * fools jam* . the ep opens with the titual track, a crunchy, crisp deep house burner, and moves on, with night lovers, into speedier, smoother floor-filling fodder that’s all wiggling, weaving pads and synth leads. the b is a little gentler and more contemplative, but no less melodious dream it (emphasi mix) is a playful yet gauzy piano-led tune that serenades the listener, and la luna (spiritual dub) is a tranquil ditty that serenely glides off into the distance. a calming, mellow conclusion to a particularly emotive 12inch.

the follow-up to last year’s lphwhtd! as with the last one, this is a collection of tunes from some of our friends and folks already on the label, though these, unlike those, are 100 percent new, not one of the four has been released online or elsewhere yet. keita sano, klubbhuset, lovers, and jacques renault. easy!

marathons began innocently, as a quick debut ep by an energetic swedish duo we found on soundcloud. within a couple months of chatting with the pair, artur bra&#776,,ndstrom and egil kahlbom, however, we realized our collaboration wasn t going to be simple, so cut and dry, so straightforward, and that s why we find ourselves here, a year after meeting them with a full album, not an in-and-out single, on our hands. what made it complex and intricate, you ask? why d we opt to squeeze eight originals into one long-player, you wonder? well, artur and egil are prolific dudes with fantastic ears and formidable work ethics. a couple of demos quickly sprouted offspring and became four, then six, then ten. rather than fight the arbitrary desire to trim the spread down to a 12inch, we figured we d aim higher and work on a proper album. what we constructed is, in a very classic sense, a long-player. here s that album! it s a sunny, loose, limber, uninhibited boogie through warm disco cuts and wobbly house jams and soulful funk slices. daytime chill-out with a nightclub architecture—or peak hour mayhem with a bright, clearheaded euphoria. marathons swings every which way and suits any mood, so drop that needle and try it on. then repeat, repeat, repeat.

the second of two zentrum spinoffs is with us! as with the first, it comes loaded with four remixes. octo octa, vito & druzzi, cooper saver and turbotito, and lemonade all handed in top-notch reimaginings of tracks off jacques renault s debut lp, which came out just under a year ago, and they all somehow manage to be unique unto themselves while also sublimely bleeding into one another. octo octas rendering of mi casa samba serves as a propulsive beginning thats as dark and druggy as it is sharp and focused. vito & druzzis take on faith runs in a similar vein, but in a more stripped-back, drawn-out, and patient sort of way, it is nearly ten minutes long, so this is perhaps not a surprise. the b s remixes are brighter, sunnier, though that s not to say they re not bold. cooper saver and turbotito s redo of words has a certain funky swing to it that, paired with spacey synths and balearic bells and whistles, makes it ideal daytime disco fodder. the lemonade boys close the ep with their vibey take on faith. pads for days, a plump bass, and a focus on the original s sax make you wonder if the song itself somehow got stoned from a couple extra giant bong rips. a fitting way to end both the 12inch and the summer.

we’re finishing 2015 with what is pretty much a mini lp by borrowed identity, an inspired producer based in freiburg. there’s a lot here and we think you should just listen to and enjoy the record, draw your own conclusions, but what we will say here is the a is ballsy house and the b is tough techno that touches on trance occasionally. get why it’s called the contrast?

a newcomer joins the lph white ranks and we couldnt be more thrilled! world, meet leo wölfel, a prodigious producer from the heart of germany! so in love with this fellas sound are we that we managed to squeeze four stellar originals on a 12 inch and flesh it out with a jacob korn remix. talk about bang for your buck.

andré laos second act on let s play house is a continuation of his first. like roundabout, nordic delight (the guy hails from gothenburg, so you can guess where the title originated), is sunny and bright piano laden house that s as melodious as it is layered and ornate. unlike that ep, though, this one really revolves around one track stroganoff which is presented in three different forms: a vocal mix, a piano stew dub, and a remix from anton klint of tiedye. supplementing and equalizing those is kalops, the 12inches second original.

nearly two years ago we released mys/kela by a newish stockholm-based producer who had put out a couple tracks on a couple labels studio barnhus and local talk owned by friends from around town. that produce s name was hnny and a lot has happened since then, both to him and to us. hes gone on to crank out more l.t. 12inches as well as some hes dropped on his yummy and puss imprints, weve gone on to unleash a couple dozen more records and see the list of talent we ve hosted at our parties grow to astounding length. somehow, through it all, we managed to stay close with hnny, whos real name is johan cederberg, and even book him for a couple nyc gigs. the friendship that began so humbly and gently in 2013 has blossomed.

if youve been even the most casual participant in or observer of the nyc dance music and club scene over the past decade, youve most definitely encountered luca venezia, a.k.a. curses, who once was better known as drop the lime, a central figure in the trouble & bass crew. where dtl was all stripped and chewed dubstep and grime, curses is clearly of a house bent, albeit one thats been cut with plenty of heavy bass, breakbeat-leaning drums, and a frantic energy that one wouldnt find on classic chicago 12inches.

fervent followers of lph will immediately recognize this record as the second from berlin-by-way-of-london-by-way-of-l.a. producer, urulu, to grace the label. (if you want to get technical, yes, the first did arrive via lph white, an lph imprint.)

this is a singular, idiosyncratic piece of work unlike any other thats come out on lph. the product of polish producer, tomek matuszczak, biscuit symphony is, as its name suggests, an epic yet whimsical and bizarre journey through its auteurs eccentric-albeit charming and catchy-tendencies.

in the past year or so, lph has increasingly been turning its focus to sweden, grabbing records by hnny, m.d.c., and name in lights, and remixes from kornel kovacs and shakarchi & straneus. the labels next release, an ep by gothenburg-based newcomer, andre&#769,,,,, laos, indicates owners nik mercer and jacques renault have no intention of disassociating themselves from the nation!

lphs unpredictable sister label, lph white, is back with another juicy 12inch, one that marks the imprints first foray into japanese clubland. atsushi yano, a kobe based producer, serves up three, as the title indicates, chewy tunes, all doused with african rhythms and set ablaze with fidgety keys, chopped­up vocals, and groovy bass lines. filling the release out is jacques renaults no­nonsense, squared­up, lead­footed remix of stomping on the verge.

for their sixth release, lets play house has headed down under to scoop up australias fantastic man, a second identity of dj/producer mic newman, with which the melbourne-based artist explores-and exposes-another side of his musical and stylistic skills. and the four original songs on the its essential ep most definitely mark a bit of a departure from newman’s trademark sounds: he has exchanged the thumping, peak-hour, hands-in-the-air chaos and messiness of hits like 2009s *sizzled sally* for a more refined and subtle breed of deep house.
