this years summer hits on highlife comes courtesy of a new artist from hamburg called green ink whos served up four uniquely brilliant global party smashers. game on!

cain is back with a bang this summer! the smile inducing eshu probably one of the biggest tracks he s made to date and one we ve sat on for too long now. as always, the other two tracks are equally as varied and great phoenix makes for a great opener and hoji is a current lena willikens hit.

highlife throws a curveball for its next release with a piece of kwaito from south africas dj call me. a track sweeter than irn bru, we first stumbled across marry me on the radio by the new york dj, sadaf. after a quick search, we found it on youtube with over a million views, only to discover it had been track of the summer(s) back in south africa at the start of the decade. almost a searching for sugarman moment. the track wasn’t available to buy in any kind of format, and so began an elaborate quest to track down the artist via his defunct facebook page. after many an unanswered email and a couple of years persistence, we finally managed to track down a manager still in touch with dj call me, and we’re now involved in some regular whatsapp exchanges with the man himself. after showing it to a select group of dj pals, it began to show up on the id of music facebook group, courtesy of plays by the likes of axel boman, hunee & kornel kovacs. last summer, auntie flo and andrew played at a wedding in beirut and this track got such a massive reaction that weve been dying to share it with you ever since

having been rinsed by the likes of dixon over the summer, were very happy to finally release auntie flos remix of oumou sangare! its complimented by a brand new original by the man himself on the flip, desert island.

becoming something of a label mainstay, cain returns to highlife! his fourth release sirin is a big yin! it s been a secret weapon round these parts for a while now and we re finally pleased to be sharing it with you alongside the kicking kaldi and tumbi , which serves as a summer sweetener. with early support from the likes of ben ufo, jackmaster and damian lazarus (who recently opened his sonar set with tumbi) we anticipate it being a big release throughout the festival season.

the highlife world series is a collaborative series of releases by uk-based brian d’souza aka auntie flo and esa williams. the first three parts are to be released in quick succession in early 2015, beginning with cuba, followed by kenya and finishing with uganda. each release features original songs produced in collaboration with local musicians. all proceeds from each release will be sent back to the respective countries in order to fund further musical production costs in years to come. we will also be seeking various ways to distribute the music in each country so the music is freely available for the musicians to use at home.

esa returns with the final instalment for this highlife world series which included previous releases cuba and kenya. having been invited to attend the east africa music conference doadoa in jinja, uganda back in 2014 and again in 2015, esa shares the sounds of a new breed of talent and ideas emerging from east africa and beyond, showcases music not only from uganda but artist from burundi, rwanda, kenya and south africa who all attended the conference.

highlife welcomes the return of alma negra! anyone who bothers paying attention to these press releases will note that we have recently been comparing tracks to other artists we admire, or go down the celebrity endorsement route. this time round well do neither. instead we will say, maloya is the first record we’ve listened to 3 times in a row upon receiving it. it has provoked id requests every time weve played it and our dear friend susie crome claims its one of the best records shes ever heard. that’s no mean feat, susie is well versed on the party front. see for yourself.

we hope you will permit us the indulgence of deviating slightly from our globe trotting explorations on this release as we pay homage to the sun. highlife on holiday, if you will. stepping away from the edits, auntie flo delivers a new original track. sun ritual ii takes things up a notch from its earlier counterpart (released on kompakt), banging dare-we-say-it berghain techno gives way to warm synth-laden euphoria. on the flip, miajica, one third of alma negra who you may recall from highlife2. here he serves up a delightfully familiar summer treat, the original being an end of the night, highlife highlight, particularly at our annual tribute to the sun event. we are sure you will agree that both sides are rock solid and primed for the summer!

for our fourth installment, we turn our focus to the middle east this time. presenting a bit more of an early doors tip with mehmet aslan making another appearance , serving up a turkish folk nugget and tel avivs mighty red axes delivering an industrial disco gem.

so far in the highlife series, weve touched on south america, the caribbean and turkey in our globetrotting excursions. our next port of call is south africa where h+p crew member, esa serves up two outstanding acidic takes on music from his homeland.

new in the highlife series are two fresh gems from basel in switzerland. introducing a turkish toe tapper by mehmet arslan and a tropical treat from alma negra, both of the family affairs crew in the city.
