detroit s one and only di jital, former part of the underground resistance band -the aquanauts- with his second release on rawax motor city edition. the final frontier of electro is a superb bluperint for music made in detroit!

delivery is the work of greg shin, who has previously appeared on la club resource and smashing tape records. now he appears on torn hawk s valcron video with a wonderfully diverse set of leftfield machine workouts, kicking off with the tempestuous drum twitches of brain drained. technology transplant is a polar opposite, focusing on calm drifts of ambient synth with a mournful tinge. the b2 is worth digging for, as four two nine seems to balance the two other tracks and make for the most club-ready piece on the 12inch.

london s weekend circuit imprint returns with a 5 track ep from label owner michael wells entitled three marks of existence. the ep marks michael s debut on the label and is a signifier of his future direction as a producer - meditative, tense, unfolding electronics and monochrome ambient environments inform this release. the deepest of deep space is contained within ep opener antecedent , an almost menacing, enveloping track that engulfs us during it s 5 minutes or so of existence. verge follows and is driven by speaker puncturing taut, tribal drum programming and swirling satellite sounds, creeping further into the nexus. subtly heavy indeed. ‘three marks of existence mines an altogether different vein, an epic, widescreen vision of downtempo electro that is damaged, on the fritz, but containing enough melodic beauty to retain hope. souls in the machines. weekend circuit acolytes yyyy return to the scene of the crime with a monolithic remix of verge that opens the second side of this ep, showcasing their unique style and interpretation of the original mix, and following on from their previous split ep with stanislav tolkachev and their own ep ‘intention of mortal’. ‘ilmatar leaves us out and leads you into the cold night, the final transmission from the ‘three marks of existence signal. fierce drums punctuate the night sky and barren landscapes while somewhere deep inside, memories are remembered. equal parts thought provoking and anxious, the perfect end point for what will undoubtedly be a formative benchmark in the weekend circuit canon.

newcastle born, melbourne-based producer cooper bowman steps out as roman nails with his first 12” for beat concern. following tapes on where to now? (uk), night people (us) + rhythm works (au), roman nails has maintained a steady flow of experimental techno over the last few years. utilising a minimal, cv-triggered hardware set-up and from a perspective rooted in improvisation, rn is a unique beast. the tongue-in-cheek titled, all hardware no tools, is his most concise and well-considered release to date, offering noirish synth tones, slinking basslines and captivating interplay between a 707 and 727. 300 copies.

running a label with the ambition to push new and unique voices isn t always an easy task. while finding new artists is about as hard as finding a black t-shirt in berlin, most budding artists seem pressured to conform or mimic the already established, only to be heard. performing under the artist name bleie, oakland resident sarah bly is not one of them. originally hailing from seattle, she indeed works with the mortar of techno form, but uses different bricks altogether. it s a hard sound to articulate, at first, it s almost alienating to ears worn by years in dark clubs. its mercurial, yet still surprisingly club compatible nature makes it an aural tiger balm – it burns and soothes at once. this compositional depth is perhaps a result of bleie s background as a trained pianist and violinist, by which she transmutes the commonly associated tropes of the genre. bleie lets the elements rule over the form, giving the tracks a morphing and unpredictable feel. obviously we were instantly intrigued when stumbling across her music, and now extremely proud to present her vinyl debut certainty is only a feeling . four tracks of unique techno so brimfully suggestive that it s nearly peerless. we can t imagine this leaving anyone unaffected.

the second release in endless illusion s series of split eps comes from marcos cabral & daniel araya and features two tracks from each artist. new york s cabral is known for his experimental idm and techno on labels like l.i.e.s. while daniel araya has recently released an album of acid, techno and industrial on the classicworks label. araya s we almost lost detroit is first and is a truly haunted deep techno cut with sparse acid undulations and a real sense of manic in the rasping synth lines. softer pads in the background only add to the spooky nature of the track. ghost bass is the other araya cut and this one is more up on its toes, with mid tempo kicks down low and wonky chords up top. it s a mind melting tune that trips deep into the night. live at the egg is cabral s first effort and is a lonely and icy techno track that is supple and seductive in its long lines and paddy drums. after getting you into a state of hypnosis, some freaky vocal sounds only add to the unsettling nature of it all later on. cuts & bruises rounds things out in squelchy and depraved techno territory. muted acid stabs are off in the distance as swampy drums suck you in from the front. it s a brilliantly odd tune that close out a fine ep.

sound does not usually come from a single source. emotions usually do not come from a single source. the way we perceive is by filtering. within this complex process there are many difficulties to overcome and many discoveries to make. how long is the club inside of you - after you have been inside of him? how do love, soup and beer choices affect your daily life? and what do an island and an airport have in common? by morphing real life situations into musical phantasies mr. tophat tries to find answers to these and many other questions. along the way there is darkness but also fun and hope.

in the first ep we find the italian re_p opening the record, a rough version from an original melodic track solved with class. the veteran japanese artist go hiyama is following with a playful remix that hooks you from the beginning and shows the new direction of his sound. on the other side we find the industrial guys from serbia, ontal, which deliver an experimental strong heavy track that breaks any conventionalism in a brilliant way. and are delivering the last track of the ep, an old school techno style track at his best as the british duo likes, a peak time track to end perfectly this first record of remixes.

bus vipers is the moniker of canberra-bred, sydney-based multi-instrumentalist and producer daniel ahern. a new signing to future classic, bus vipers comes fresh with a new live band and ep, federal highway. sounding like a mix between unknown mortal orchestra and silversun pickups, this indie rock project is prone to hooky vocals, punchy drums and strong guitar riffs. in 2013, triple j unearthed ranked him 20 in the 50 most played artists of that year.

the squirrels are back. their second platter comes courtesy of kit n c.l.a.w.s. (say it out loud), the cheekily-named collaborative project from squirrels on film co-founder brian hock and veteran san francisco producer kit clayton, and just like the label s first record, it s a woozy, wobbly trip designed for dancefloors drifting between dimensions. savvy techno heads will recognize kit clayton s name from his decades of experience at the avant-garde of electronic music. in the late 90s, he and partners tang tran and juan mendez (now better known as silent servant) launched cytrax, a groundbreaking minimal techno label that paved the way for the clicks n cuts sound of the early aughts. his debut album — nek sanalet, first released in 1999 on stefan betke s seminal label ~scape and reissued in 2015 — remains one of dub techno s most enduring documents. meanwhile, brian hock moonlights as the drummer for deranged bay area post-punk outfit bronze while recording murky electro-techno excursions as c.l.a.w.s.

following the blistering inaugural release from talker comes the second release on the standards & practices imprint from label co-founder jonathan -stave- krohn, who returns with 5 tracks of dark, visceral electronic music for the discerning listener. -black hills- and -tasc us- kick off the proceedings in fine style – pummeling drums underpinning harsh blasts of noise and bleak, greyscale atmospherics, while -in/human- and -b5- on the flip take a different approach – 2 tracks not aimed at the dancefloor, but both retaining that cold, claustrophobic feel that characterizes much of stave s work. the brooding and sinister -stave 17- closes the ep, moving into exciting new territory with an intensely cinematic sound.

it’s been 3 years since the last basic soul unit ep on lab.our and the label co-head is back to top form! loose, melodic and funky, the toronto producer stretches his legs across 4 tracks in this kaleidoscopic gem of an ep. on a1 is ‘behavoural issue’, a frenetic, crunchy and off-kilter number that will have you contorted in distortion with all arms and legs on the dancefloor. ‘rising over the east’ marches in next, a deep jacking head trip to the orient opium den with its endless arpeggiators. on the b-side, the heavy broken club banger ‘propulses’ harkens back to the glory rave days without mimicry. a basic soul unit interpretation with his undeniable footprint in the mix. ‘my heart skips’ turns the dial down several notches into deeper house terrain. the soulful ride begins as an easy cruise before deftly lurching into an odd rhythmic fractal workout that the producer has become known for. sealing an untouchable reputation in the world of broken soulful lo-fi techno, basic soul unit casts an even wider net to captivate audiences with this must-have ep.

following on from mr.cs stand up single & full length incidents album comes the second single from his album entitled ripple effect, which comes with 3 stunning remixes. the single kicks off with marc houle s remix & in typical marc houle fashion is a wonderful slice of electronic techno in which a funky bass-line, tight rubber beats & atmospheric effects work around the original 303 acid line. next noel jackson ups the tempo, reworks the bass-line, the pads & effects of the original into a real detroit workout that s an immediate dancefloor winner. lastly on the flip side chloe again uses the original parts to perfect affect to take her mix deeper. the bass-line has the most infectious bounce, which makes this remix perfect for either late night heads down darkness or peak time action. this single once again demonstrates why both mr.c & superfreq are creating tsunamis in the clubs right now

on ep5, legendary german musician burnt friedman makes his dekmantel records debut with ‘monsun’. the berlin based artist, who built a reputation for himself through his explorations into obscure, finely-tuned, experimental dub through his label nonplace, alongside his collaborative relationship with the late can drummer jaki liebezeit, is one of the crucial, sonic manipulators of our time. ‘monsun’ finds friedman crafting flowing, percussive, dub techno that is both esoteric, and progressive. befitting of a dekmantel release. alongside friedman sits legendary detroit act ectomorph, aka. bmg & erika, also making their dekmantel inauguration, with a record that surmises’ the group’s anologue, style of motor city beats

flesh world is a dream punk group formed in the summer of 2012 in san francisco. the quartet includes scott moore (guitar, synths) jess scott (vocals, guitar) andrew luttrell (bass, backing vocals) sam lefebvre (drums). jess and scott met while loitering around the panhandle district, listening to records, gossiping, and playing live shows around town with their bands (scott plays in hardcore group limp wrist and jess played in the indie pop band brilliant colors).

hugo capablanca may be best known for his more disco-minded output from his time on gomma records, but increasingly his scattered output and his label have been reaching towards more abrasive material. nothing will prepare you for the confrontational nature of this daring, no label transmission. the artwork alone is enough to challenge the senses, while the opening track is a metallic drone that gives way to the distended mutant beats of top less. guy debord is no less cut throat in delivering a disco punish remix of lap dance on the b side, all deconstructed groove and guttural noise, and then dance less rounds the record off with another excursion into unsettling, heavily processed noise.

los angeles based natan h and malta based artist owen jay return as gauss with their first ep of 2017. entitled resonator it offers more deep music with an electronic soul and is their fifth ep for their cultured label gauss ltd. the title track opens things up with a crunchy and impactful mix of weighty dub drums and spangled techno chords. it s a heavy track that builds in momentum and is sure to mangle minds with its skewed stabs and wiry electronics. shifted is a more fierce techno track with urgency in the kicks and a sense of anger in the coarse little snare explosions. more gurgling synths add weight and this one is a real stomper as a result. cutting ever more loose, odyssey is a mix of idm sound design, soulful synth smears and percolating electro tinged drums that are slick and futuristic. least squares completes this techno picture with spitting hits and claps, underwater chords and acidic sonar pulses that soothe the mind. this is an expansive ep that marks an exciting evolution in gauss s sound.

ltd repress --- after his comeback album on morphine in 2014, sote marks his return to rhythm by taking part in repitchÆs 10inch series with a banging twotracker extracted from his more than 20 years old unreleased archive. ôneuroenhancerö produced in 1995 is a heavyduty techno drilling machine, pairing an oldschoolmillslike groove with a throbbing mass of modular synths. on the other side ôin music i trustöÆs main engine is an incandescent hardcore/jungle beat, haunted by spacedout vocals in the darkness. the track was produced in 1997 with friend æsafarÆ a san francisco based dj/producer, shortly after sote&#835,,,,s initial experiments with jungle and drum n bass pre his warp ep in 2002.

moda is kicking off the new ep on the deeptrax label (dptx-006). big large suburban club tracks in flashing diy style from this already acclaimed dj/ producer from sweden. banging the room with filthy lo-fi dance, groomy grimey basslines and stabbing 90 s rave sounds combined with clever aquatic accents.

part ii - operated under extreme psychosis, performed live in the dead of night at the studio of the hague s pirate radio tonka , these two records contain an apocalyptic selection of the very darkest moments of its maker, an anglo-french bruxellois driftwood expat washed ashore on the west holland wasteland just to get even more lost in its empty shadow chessboard grid of luscious ghost town smoke screen structures built on nothing but loose sand, to get even more entangled in its reef-like vortex of the fleetwood parkland dune estates artifice of ugly evergreen high-tech verdure of rose and thorn , oh, yes, its many, many flowers sans mercee , red and white carnation, asphodel, or fleur de lys and fleur du mal , all awaiting, lurking gentle softness of the flesh, perfumed for luring prey, yet strikingly hard-wired through the courtly appearance and the troubling foliage of the count s many hidden pleasures, his many secret palace garden hedges, his royal seal concealed behind, oh, yes, its many, many spines, all hiding midst the ticket, like cloak and dagger, that poisoned slip of tongue, or poisoned tip of blade, and all s so easy to slip away and disappear into the vine and creeper, to make one trip and fall in smear of mud or was it blood?

roman producer (and a force behind minimalrome label) valerio lombardozzi known as heinrich dressel returns to barba with a second release for our label, titled -the styx swamp-. heinrich has a unique way of combining classic techno and electro sounds with elements from the beloved drexcyan universe and john carpenter leitmotifs, and making them come together in a manner that both moves your body and pushes your mind beyond the point of awareness. as with the previous record, -lurking underwater-, here he pulls off the move with the same efficiency and without sounding like he s repeating himself. -gray slope-, -sailing the nether waterways- and -the styx swamp- are all quite moody and deep, rich with sound and thick with vibe. however, the tracks feel equally at home in 4 am techno situation and a heady afterhours affair. he truly is a master of crafting hybrids whose influences get so flawlessly embedded that it s hard to point them out. if that s not enough, -the styx swamp- got a treatment by nigel rogers aka perseus traxx, a multi-faceted producer and a mighty live act performer. nigel stayed respectful to the original but made the original s bouncy groove into something more direct and reduced, while retaining the same feel conditioned by lead synth s hypnotic quality. we re known to give a little bit of extra love to our releases so (as all before) this one s pressed onto a heavy duty 180 gram vinyl and beautifully packaged in an original artwork by emaemaema.

dc175 comes courtesy of alias, a new project comprising of harvey & ryan mckay, who are two acts who have previously released solo material on the label. harvey mckays last appearance was in late 2016 when he dropped the mad drummer on a-sides vol. 4 whereas ryan mckay s last outing was in 2015 when he appeared on a-sides vol.3 under the name skiver. this is the first collaborative project between the scottish duo under their new moniker alias. the ep opens with pentatonic , a tough sounding track that has been designed for the forward-thinkers. the truth follows up sharply, with vintage piano stabs and a vocal that gives the track abounding energy. the on-point percussion leads you on a trip of pure rapture. the release closes with the apocalyptic dream taker, which is teeming with sinister vocal action and hostile synth work and a sublime way to sign off.

olim in latin can be used to indicate a time in the past or in the future. it can mean ‘once upon a time’ and ‘someday in the future’. a name and a project to try to move away from trends and genres, by taking inspiration from the past but at the same time leaving it, moving forward to shape a different and more narrative sound. the first attempt to do so is recursively: an 8 track album, opening with a sentence from bunny marrett sampled from an old documentary about st paul’s and the jamaican immigration in bristol during the 80’s. inspired by those intro words, recursively is a journey born from many years moving around, packing and unpacking suitcases, leaving villages, finding cities,leaving friends and finding more, emigrating, integrating. it’s a story about an entire generation trying to find the peace somewhere, somehow, sometimes by repeating the same steps in a loop of actions which seem to be the same but ultimately never are. it’s a soundtrack of those feelings and at the same time a message of hope to continue the journey through the faith that the meaning is the infinite journey itself. an infinite loop masterfully represented in carol rollo’s illustration. a story to be continued.

volume 3 in the perihel series on karlrecords is dedicated to one of the most iconic composers of 20th century: john cage. all 92 pieces of the “song books” in stunning interpretations by reinhold friedl, recorded at rashad beckers clunk studio who also contributed live electronics.

more than less, started from seoul, south korea, came back with 4th vinyl release “folka ep”, composed by joton, owner of newrhythmic records, based in north spain, leon. he is also part of more than less records, releasing “fragment ep” with soolee remixes in 2014. it had great success and been supported by many producers like surgeon, pacou, dvs1, invite, lakker, paul mac, samuli kemppi, unam zetineb, jeroen search and many more. “folka ep” has two new tracks, called “frontier” and “sendice”. these two tracks are remixed by japanese techno hero, dj nobu, and korean techno pioneer, soolee, again. the “folka ep” represents the conjunction of asianeuropean techno, which more than less has been pursuing. “frontier” has pure anlalog synth sounds with addicted melody line, based on rough sound textures. it’s obviously for the peak time of the dance floor. “sendice” has unique grooves which joton’s trademark and adding rhythmic loops gives numerous dance feelings. “frontier”, dj nobu remixed, gives hypnotic raw sounds and exotic feelings. it has subtle rhythmic factor and people can’t help moving their body. another remixer is, more than less records owner, soolee. it is 9 minute track, consisting with full of hypnotic sounds from the first to the end.

the album includes the most direct and propulsive shinoby material yet. there is a functional connection to dance music here, honing in on the celestial bliss s human element embedded within a sound fraught with inhumanity.the music is emotional, hostile, dark, grungy, dissenting, acidic and energetic. mostly based on repetitive patterns, the distorted yet perfectly balanced percussion drills through the concrete warehouse walls long into the night. the not occasional use of distortion brings the dense atmosphere to near suffocating limits.

the artists featured on this release were carefully chosen in order to create an eclectic sonic journey.
on the a side, two tracks from playful death, a producer whose sounds are influenced by comics such as biomega and the invisibles.
the first track on the b side is from yxan, which is micheal idehall’s techno alias. michael is a multi-talented artist who leads a publishing house called belzebez that also features many of his own artworks and has had releases on prominent labels such as ant-zen.
next up is necropants a producer who enjoys roaming around graveyards and and seeking out ancient burial mounds. the last track on the b side was created by bellatrix?, an up and coming producer from verona, italy who has recently released an excellent ep on the veleno viola imprint. bellatrix? also heads a tape label called culto verona.
all of the artists selected for this v/a embody what nightshade represents, the devil is in the detail.

after a one year hiatus, berlin s michael melchner is finally back in a memorable way with a new release on colt music. three original cuts that do not need any futher explanation with ? came first as the main track, followed by a more personal version on the b side. closing things off, prague adds the spice with a funky minimal tool track.

rush plus continues onto their third release with a 4 track split ep with friends lpz (asuncion, paraguay). the first two releases from the washington, dc based duo/label focused on original material, rpdc003 showcases techno from another city with a burgeoning underground music scene south of the equator. lpz had made a name for themselves in 2016 honing their live performance, debuting on boiler room and building their label, the sequence party (which has invited the likes of truncate, marcel dettmann, et al) and presence in the south american/global underground. the trio s wealth of studio experience is imminent in their sound. they delivered two driving, hypnotic techno tracks in snooze & temp 8 on the a-side, tailored with two more tribal, hectic cuts from rush plus on the b-side. all tracks have been tested at warehouse parties in dc & asunscion, ready for international play

south london ordnance debuts on parachute. the british producer marks his first release of 2017 with parallel window, a four track ep featuring three wrought-iron originals and remix from token & blueprint affiliate, sigha. driven and direct, the music marries rolling low end with high energy drum machine percussion and wide angle highs - for the most part eschewing anxious, heads-down austerity in favour of a more uplifting, trancelike approach - spread across multiple bpms. despite the heady, crushed finish - shifts in tone are subtle, developing over prolonged periods, with careful modulation drawing sounds in and out of the sonic hinterland sporadically to create a comfortable atmospheric balance between peak-time dance-floor urgency and hazy mid-set moments. on his remix, sigha hones in on this sentiment - lifting the caustic lead bassline from parallel window and augmenting it with trademark cavernous low end, skittering highs & a rolling lead arp to create a hypnotic, half-time dirge.

green village is a label operating out of jersey city that deals in all manner of sounds from rugged house to scuffed up techno, but with a distinct bent towards broken rhythms and plenty of bass. this various artists 12- plies a diverse trade, with all tracks bound together by their ruffness. theft & toyc bring some loud and lurid bass synths to their snaking slice of oddball club music -atlantic-, while bd1982 places focus on dense layers of choppy drums and needlepoint acid arpeggios. eighth ruin delivers a truly head turning beat with the appropriately named -whip-, and then etch pays tribute to a classic movie with the excellent breakbeat science of -predator-.

following on from this year s brooding debut, anthony linell gathers a storming double 12- of material to depth charge vacant participants and lilting movers. leaving aside his well established abdulla rashim moniker, emerald fluorescents feels like an agile side-step into heavier terrain with a renewed sense of purpose. scattered fractal stabs revolve around quietly furious low-end fit outs with enough sharp edges to let you know it s someone else s space.
