we first discovered young glasweigian talent barrientos in 2012 via the always on point synthglasgow.com blog. his debut mix for them effortly mixed tracks from atjazz and matthew styles to loco dice, vince watson and steve rschmad and took the listener from the early bounce as the club doors open right through to hands-in-the air madness of a packed dancefloor. we loved it. he alsoreleased the good-time, sun-soaked sky ep (for free via soundcloud) around the same time and the quality of both his music and production really stood out from the crowd.

limited vinyl reissue of this obscure and incredibly rare production by the legendary disco pairing of rinder and lewis. released in 1977, the discognosis project is definitely one of the powerhouse duos more experimental offerings - a wildly eclectic yet inspirational mix of styles. of course the biggie here is cosmic floor-filler step by step, a chugging synth monster layered with chunky beats, grooving piano, great vocals and of course those searing synths. but the album is packed with other highlights including the super-funky horror-tinged title track discognosis, slick jazzy delight one on one with its superb brass and dark flamenco overtones, weird slo-mo space-groover movette, the sweet summery 60s pop-soul of love belongs to everyone and disco-funk stompers love shortage and good time man. dont miss this superb disco gem.

midnight moves. thats what comes to mind when you listen to cale parks s n1, preferably at an hour long after dusk has settled around you in some beautiful, insomniac city. parks finds – or more aptly, seeks – beauty and grace in ambience and shadows. n1 starts as pure atmosphere – it feels at first like a sort of lovely sonic nothingness slowly taking form – before growing into the darkly lit, gorgeous moodscape it later becomes. a sensual bassline, a pulsing downbeat, a cinematic piano, strains of italo disco, and the sensation of breezing down a lightless road. if you could make sensuous shapes of the night – imagine kneading the dark itself – it might, at the very best, feel like this. the task of remixing parks s original is taken up by french duo paradis, who can otherwise be heard making music on tim sweeney s beats in space label. the paris-based producers shine a brightening light on parks s dusky creation, quickening its pulse and trading in its darkwave undercurrents for enlivening techno and house. theres an element of floating here – a dreaminess in the rhythms, an astral aspect to the keys beaming through the beats. and with the addition of vocals, sung in french – a pop finishing touch on a song that already feels like an earworm – the transformation is complete. this excellent introduction to cale parkss music is also his debut release on the hakt label.

guy andrews has been a prominent name on the underground circuit as of late, racking up a reputable back catalogue with releases and remixes for the likes of hotflush, hemlock and the vinyl factory. andrews has seen heavy support on the aforementioned singles from the likes of lorca, the black dog and a1 bassline, testament to his classy, understated take on house and techno. here guy joins the fina records roster, following a release from dfrnt, a striking indication of the attentive a&r approach of the label so far this year.

*my recent sets have become something of a tici taci megamix* … andrew weatherall, as recommended by the chairman. a brand new label with some old hands on deck, tici taci is bringing the funk back with this first release - electric plum. producer duncan gray (ex sons of slough, veteran of many vinyl labels) has gone back to basics, slowed things down to 110bpm and plugged in the real instruments.

hank jackson is from southern california, but he calls brooklyn home. a couple months ago, when we were stamping alex burkats record in the mister office, we put these songs on. after we picked our eyeballs off the floor, we realized we were listening to more than just face-burning techno. theres something about hanks music that seems to embody the conflict between youth and age, what its like to live in a society where the law can simultaneously & arbitrarily protect you or harm you. but maybe we just think too much. no matter what, we are happy to introduce hank, and we are happy to present you with the deposit ep. we hope you enjoy

glasgow underground launches a new mix compilation series in may with the release of optimo:the underground sound of glasgow mixed by optimos jd twitch. each installment of the underground sound of… will see a dj focus on his or her home city, compiling mixing and collection of music from said city. this 12 inch features 5 of the rarer tracks from the mix.

belfast bass producer unknown who has built up a huge following with a steady stream of tunes on youtube and soundcloud, made his vinyl debut with last years #001-010 series on champion sound recordings, and now he returns to the label with his best and most diverse work yet, the i cry ep. the unknown trademarks – waves of sub-bass, expertly swung percussion and a dark, seductive and tense atmosphere – are all there, and he is pushing into new and fascinating territories too, with some brighter textures, house vibes and his first ever vocal collaboration on the stunning title track, *i cry*.

sneakers first solo ep for uncanny valley is a record of high humidity. the java / sumatra ep evolved in large parts in indonesia when sneaker lived there for almost a year and it literally conveys the indonesian heat to dance floors in the rest of the world. compared to his acid house-inspired you think you think which was featured on the uncanny valley 004 compilation, this four new tracks show another, rather ark, pop and new wave side of sneaker

capital bass records continues to explore new sonic territories with its second release by spb based analogue-head ponty mython.
the main theme called jesus makes you stomp your feet to its funky beat and phat acid bassline that mutates during the track keeping things deep without getting too religious. futureboogie man christophe does some good work on the remix adding some extra syrup: even more bass plus preachers speech in the middle of the track.
the b-side goes even deeper with blackstreet sampling number u ve got your pr0blems. starting off with the smooth disco beat, little guitar and that catchy male vocal the track changes halfway with addition of funky acid squelches and 4x4 house beat that makes you realize you really, really want to stay at the dancefloor.
